whooaaa baby. did we just take Peoria 3 games to 1? damn i am still psyched!!!
Hewitt is looking like superman in goal. un-ba-leeevabull. as much as i wanted to see our boys retaliate tonight w/ all the bull**** antics Peoria was pulling, we kept playing smart penalty-free hockey and we finally prevailed. i made sure i helped the Peoria fans while sitting in section 114-116 w/ some words of encouragement on the way out as they enjoy their off season! upset over Peoria... Toledo is next! lets go cy-clones, lets go!

I hope you didn't raz the Peoria fans too much because at least they came! We had people from Dayton, Johnstown,Wheeling and even Indianapolis down to root for us, and all we could muster is a lousy 1000 fans. Maybe we don't deserve this team the way they are playing. My wife and I were down there both night and I'm glad this is typed because my voice is gone. The team sucked it up in the second period and took the abuse to get right back in it.Hewitt's head must still be ringing from the shots he took by sticks because of the late whistles on stops. One more thing.Who showed up in the second overtime where we scored just two minutes in after no scoring an entire 20 minute first over- time? CLAWD our good luck charm. I hope here will be there when we play Toledo. We'll need all the luck we can get.

i was there both nights as well screaming my head off. voice is completely shot. i feel a little alone and not loud enough sitting above the faceoff circle in section 114-116 alone! so if someone could lead me over to a louder section so we can pick it up when Toledo comes to town next week i'd be more than happy!
we look really great out there lately. we are picking it up at the right time and who can say enough about Hewitt? i liked the simple dump and chase against Peoria. the 3rd period and beyond we were skating circles around them. they looked very tired. i'd like to see us keep the simple dump and chase w/ Toledo. definitely play the fowards back for help on D. we will need to against the snipers Toledo has. lets hope we can find the back of the net against Doug Teskey. we beat the odds w/ Peoria and lets do it again in round 2! hope to see everyone tuesday night. go cyclones!

The simple dump and chase works good if you CHASE. The problem I have with the defense is they are not in the play. You watch when we come down on offense, our two defensemen are back on the blue line and we are playing 3 on 5. Peoria on the other hand had one man on the blue line and the second most times was in the play. This made a 4 on 5 effort resulting in long periods in our end. We can't expect Hewitt to keep stopping shot after shot against Toledo and THREE shots on goal in one period is just not going to work. On paper the defense looks great, but I don't like the many icing penalties we took between center line and our blue line.We just keep dragging the puck back on top of our goalie and allows them instant scoring chances.

One of my favorite lines to use during a game is "A fundamental part of the 'Dump-n-Chase' is to CHASE THE FRIKKIN' PUCK!". That and "Support your local goaltender. Clear the damn puck!".
I wouldn't mind the defense staying around the blueline if they would just help keep the puck in the zone. Normally, they do help out with this but there were several times this season & this series where an easy keep-in slips right underneath the stick.
All in all, I'm proud of the improvements this squad has made. Who seriously thought after the Dayton game on March 26th that we would be able to not just beat Peoria but to do it in four games?
Let's hope the boys can keep it up against Toledo. |

i don't think you can expect the defense to jump all over the play too deep in the attack zone. giving up odd man rushes if there is a turnover is something we can't afford. i'd much rather see the D stay on the blue line and play conservative. although, keeping it in the zone is the key which sometimes it just doesn't seem they can do that.
i know everyone seems to see the problem w/ the defense late in the season, but a part of this 3 shots on goal is the fowards not wanting to shoot the freakin' puck. we want to tic-tac-toe pass all over the zone and end up turning it over before we even take a shot. if we just start throwing it on net something is bound to happen. look @ Bootland in the double OT. just SHOOT! and you see what happens.

At times are offense looks like they were watching the movie "Hoosiers" when Hackman benched the players for taking the open shot before passing a zillion times.Forget the passive hang on the blue line and turn and backtrack as soon as the opposition looks like they may get the puck. Take some chances and if you have to, take the penalty to stop a breakaway. We miss so many second chances that could give us a lead. |

| agreed Bags. theres times we definitely do miss those 2nd chance oppurtunities. its going to be quite interesting to see what type of game we bring to Toledo. i'm just happy if our boys keep winning! there could be some improvements and whether the D plays conservative or they start bringing them in more. all i know is - as long as the game plan is working, no need to fix it just yet. |
