ECHL announces players with Qualifying Offers
July 1, 2014

The ECHL on Tuesday released the list of players who received a valid qualifying offer from ECHL teams by the June 30 deadline.

Players who had already signed a contract by June 30 did not need to receive a qualifying offer.

Each team was entitled to reserve the rights to a maximum of eight qualified players. Of the eight qualified players, no more than four could be veterans (260 regular season professional hockey games played as of the start of the upcoming 2014-15 season). Players on open qualifying offers cannot be traded.

The qualifying offer must remain open for acceptance until Aug. 1 at which time the qualifying offer becomes null and void and the team may sign the qualified player to any salary or may elect to take no further action. Teams that extend a valid qualifying offer to a non-veteran player shall retain the rights to that qualified player for one playing season.
Here are our players:
Rob Madore, Brett Wysopal, Chris Reed, David MacDonald, Pat O'Keefe, Dan Eves, Josh Birkholz and Joe Basaraba

Cyclones Add Pair of Skilled Forwards to 2014-15 Roster
July 21, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL) Cincinnati Cyclones

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones, proud affiliate of the NHL's Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators, announced today that they have agreed to terms with forwards David Pacan and Michael Neal for the 2014-15 season.
Pacan, a 23-year-old Ottawa, Ontario native, returns to the Queen City after spending the bulk of last season in the ECHL with the Kalamazoo Wings. While with the Wings, he totaled 13 goals and 32 assists in 65 games, finishing third on the team in points. Pacan also logged three tilts with the Utica Comets, but did not register a tally. Pacan made his professional debut with the Cyclones in 2012-13, when he registered nearly a point per game (52 points in 57 games). The former Chicago Blackhawks sixth round draft pick also ranked second on the club during the Kelly Cup Playoffs that spring, notching 16 points (9 goals, 7 assists) in 17 postseason contests.

"David is a big man who has proven that he can contribute at both ends of the ice at the ECHL level," said Cyclones Head Coach Ben Simon. "He is familiar with the Cyclones as well and understands the expectations of our hockey team and organization. We played him a lot last year when he was with Kalamazoo and know the type of player he is and what he is capable of doing on the ice."

Neal, a fifth round choice by the Dallas Stars in 2007, comes to Cincinnati after spending 2013-14 on the west coast with the Bakersfield Condors. In 56 games last season, the Whitby, Ontario native posted 16 goals and 16 assists along with 31 penalty minutes. Since going pro in 2009-10, the 25-year-old has skated in 268 ECHL games and compiled 119 points (46 goals, 73 assists) along with 22 games and three goals at the AHL level. In addition to the Condors, Neal has appeared for the Idaho Steelheads, Orlando Solar Bears, Las Vegas Wranglers, and Texas Stars (AHL). Prior to joining the pro ranks, he was a four-year player in the OHL, seeing time with the Belleville Bulls and Sarnia Sting. His older brother, James Neal, is a forward for the Nashville Predators and former NHL All-Star with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

"Mike is another big body who has great experience as a professional," said Simon, "He is a veteran who can be used in a variety of situations. He competes hard and will be looked to provide leadership both on and off the ice for the Cyclones."

The countdown to the 2014-15 First Face-Off is underway! The Cyclones will return for another season of hockey at U.S. Bank Arena on Saturday, October 25 when they play host to the Kalamazoo Wings at 7:30pm. Fans can also get the latest team updates throughout the offseason on Facebook and Twitter (@CincyCyclones).

MacDonald, Froese return to Cyclones

August 14, 2014

CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators, announced that the team has agreed to terms with defenseman David MacDonald and forward Byron Froese for the 2014-15 season.

Last year's Cyclones' captain logged 60 games during and posted 14 points (2g-12a) along with 113 penalty minutes. Since turning pro in the spring of 2012, the Baddeck, Nova Scotia native has amassed 40 points (10g-30a) 140 contests - all but four of those games with the Cyclones.

Froese, a fourth-round selection (119th overall) of the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, is coming off of a stellar season for Cincinnati. He compiled five assists in 29 games for the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League before being assigned the Cyclones on Feb. 15. Upon arrival, the 23-year-old was an instant contributor, notching 21 points (11g-10a) in 25 regular-season contests along with a team-leading 25 points (8g-17a) in 23 Kelly Cup Playoff games, to rank second in the league during the playoffs. On April 20, he set the club record with a five-point playoff game against Orlando (3g-2a), becoming one of just four Cyclones to record a playoff hat trick.
