Seems like kind of an odd move for him (except financially). He left an AHL assistant job to come to Cincinnati for head coaching experience. After one good season, he goes back to the AHL at the same level he left. Maybe there's a head coach-in-waiting scenario we're not aware of. Anyway, good for him. Best of luck.

Any names you'd like to see in the hopper for the coaching job? |

Matt MacDonald seems like a candidate after being here as an asst for two coaches who have moved on. Complicated because of the supposed uncertainty on affiliates who will have some input. Whomever I hope it is quick as it is awful late in the off season to find someone good who is not already signed somewhere and players at this level want to know who the coach will be before some of them sign. |

I've heard rumblings in Toronto that Gord Dineen will be the next coach of the Leafs if Randy Carlyle doesn't get off to a quick start next season. Perhaps Ben Simon is being considered for the top job with the Marlies if that happens. |

Dineen would be the interim head coach if Carlyle were to be let go during the season. Mike Babcock is in the last year of his contract with the Red Wings and the Leafs will be the front runner to get him if he becomes available after the 2014-15 season.
Mike likes it in Detroit and he has a great relationship with GM Ken Holland, but the opportunity to coach the Leafs and be the guy that leads them to success appeals to him. A lot. |

So do you think the Leafs would send Dineen back down? Is the thinking that Simon is playing to be an interim head coach with the Marlies, so he can make his mark and move on? I agree with Reggie Dunlop, if he made this move to be in the same position he was in before he got the top job in Cincinnati, it doesn't make a lot of sense for him. |

Pssst. Ben didn't elect to leave Rockford. His contract wasn't renewed. SMH

They wouldn't concern themselves with what to do with Dineen if they got Mike Babcock. |

Thanks for the info and the link to back it up. Maybe if Weber could have spent a few years as an AHL assistant his first AHL head coach job would have went better. Too bad the Simon decision wasn't before Weber taking his new job. Would love to get him back even though Simon did a great job with a great goalie effort and no offense ! |

Anyone else concerned that it has been a week and no announcement on a replacement? Camp starts in September and no head coach. Anyone heard anything fact or rumor? |

Concerned? No. Why are you? Seems like they've been able to figure things out just fine over the years that new coaches have come in. Matter of fact - I seem to recall that Skalde was hired "late" by your standards. Worked out fine. SMH. |

Im not concerned... I am thinking that Matt MacDonald will be the head coach this year, he deserves it... Ben did what he did and we have to live with it and move on... it DID work for Jarrod Skalde and now he coaches an AHL team... maybe the scenario is working the way Reggie Dunlop described, and we will see Ben as head coach of the Marlies if the Leafs foul up |
