The ECHL announced a new, multi-year partnership with auto insurance giant GEICO. With this deal, goal posts around the entire league will be changed in color from the traditional red to GEICO blue and adorned with the insurer’s logo.
I don't really like them. It just seems that the red pipes are kind of sacred. Enough of the game has been sold off with ads on the boards and in the ice, but this goes a bit far. I am all for capitalism, but this just feels a little too commercial and crass. I could totally get behind them sponsoring the blue line and putting their logo in it. In the end, it's probably not that big of a deal and we'll get used to them.
On the other side of the equation, it's probably a huge payday for the league.
