Did you see anywhere where I said he was nothing more than a D-3 player and a future bartender? I didn't think so, and I post on that other board. I also can't find one comment on that other board where anyone specifically signaled out Martin as nothing but a
D-3 player and a future bartender.
I've seen a lot of D-3 players have success in the AHL including former Ducks center Keith Aucoin, who is now playing quite well in the NHL for the Carolina Hurricanes.

Oh and BTW IM like you Elvis(in some ways lol) I am to selfish. As much as I like to see the Cyclones move up to bigger and better things, this swish cheese blue line is killing me.The clones need a few solid D-men that can hold the puck in the zone. Not having it hope over their sticks or slide between their legs   . Funny thing that you brought up JM the wife was asking me that question the other night. I told her I hope he doesn't sign with the Baby Pens and get sent down to Weeling at some point. I would hate to have to boo my favorite player when he comes back to USBA. But as someone stated JM isn't god enough to stick in the AHL B/C of his size and puck handling skills. He will get pushed around too much and get roughed up. I wonder who said that??? |

JM had six points (two goals, four assists) and 12 shots in his first six games with WBS, and has just one point (assist) and five shots in his last five games. As I stated before, the longer he plays in the AHL, the more he'll show why he's an ECHL player.
BTW ... the Cyclones own JM's ECHL rights for the 2007-08 season so if WBS were to sign him and wanted to send him back to the ECHL he would be sent to the Cyclones, not Wheeling. |

i gotta agree with elvis. i mean aren't you contradicting yourself?? i mean in one breath it's cya FOREVER and in the next you are saying well yeah he could very easily end up back here...
also who cares why hamilton signed him?? the fact is that they did and now at least for the next 2 seasons (barring a trade)we have a pretty good idea where he will be playing. honestly i wish hamilton had done the same thing with JM. i hate that there is possiblity that he could end up,of all places in WHEELING. on that same note having met him more than once i couldnt boo him regardless of what team he plays for. he is a class act and deserves to be treat as such...not like he can help hamilton didn't give him a look.... |

i dont know i mean doesnt the the six points in six games count for anything? i understand your skepticism and dont disagree that his size is a huge disadvantage and it's all about what have you done for me lately but what about the "other things" that players can do (things that done show up on the score sheet) to help their team?
now i am not saying that he will definitely stick but i just wonder what makes you say he is merely an ECHL player? |

Simply put, he's not good enough at all the essential parts of the game to play full-time at the AHL level.
At the same time, there were players on the Ducks that weren't (and still aren't) good enough to play full-time in the NHL. They are good short-term help at the NHL level, but they're not good enough to play regularly at that level. Pierre Parenteau, for example, is one of the best offensive players in the AHL. He could go up for a few games and play well for the NY Rangers. But the more he played in the NHL, the more he'd show why he's an AHL player. |

JM has 2 assists in his last 6 games and is 2-6=8 pts in 12 games overall. He has been praised by his coach, teammates and radio announcers. He's averaging .667 points per game which translates to about 54 points per year. He has been named the game's first star once and 3rd star twice. A very propitious start to a highter level of hockey.
In WB Scranton's last 6 games they have scored a grand total of 11 goals. So, he's been involved in 18% of his team's scoring over that time frame.
Perhaps the entire team lacks 'the essentials' to play full time in the AHL. |

I know that he would come back to the cyclones this year. Did I say He would go to wheeling this year? I said at some point if they would send him down that could mean 2 years from now KEY WORD "SOME POINT". And Babe I don't think I was contradicting myself, I was thinking on the positive for Conrad when I posted the heading. This is minor league hockey anything can happen. |

donnie, you're right and i know the cyclones do own JM's echl rights, and i would agree that at this point in the season if he were to sign a deal like the one conrad signed, chuck would do what he could to retain those rights, rather than sell them to wheeling for a player or "future considerations" which we all know is typically cash, at least that's what one would think. however, the bottom line is, if JM signs a deal with the baby pens there is no guarantee the cyclones will won't sell his right for money or a player. personally i think they's be crazy to do it, but you never know.
i was thinking more along the lines of next season when we'd have to potentially have to face JM in wheeling.
personally i think JM has the skills to stick up there. i went up to see lake erie play a month or so back and JM has every bit of the skill of a lot of those guys. as far as his size goes, sure he doesn't have a lot of it, but what he does have he uses very well. and in todays game which is much less physical than the pre-lockout version, smaller players can and do excell.
