Yesterday was what is known as Clear Day in the American Hockey League, when all 29 teams must submit a list of 20 skaters and two goaltenders which would comprise the final roster for the duration of the regular season and playoffs.

Only those players named on the Clear Day lists are eligible to play from yesterday on, but there is wiggle room. Teams are also allowed to include several "in residence" players, or those eligible to fill in if a listed player is injured, ill or recalled to the NHL.

JM Daoust was not included on Wilkes-Barre's Clear Day list, so in order for him to be eligible to fill in if a listed player is injured, ill or on recall to the NHL, he must be signed to a standard pro contract (NHL or AHL).

Draft picks or free agents signed out of the junior or college ranks are also exempt from being included on the Clear Day list. They don't have to be signed to standard pro contracts in order to play the remainder of the regular season and playoffs.

Hope this helps explain it.

If you get a chance-check out the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins web site in their
game gallery site. JM is sure getting the coverage.

Clear Day rosters:

Hamilton: Desjardins, Martin, Russell on. Gleed Not.

Wilkes/Barre: JM not on.

Rockford: Matt MacDonald not on.

Milwaukee: G-Morris, Scmidt, Martenson, and Maki on. Daigneault and Sixsmith not.

Max appears to be it in goal for us for the remainder of the year. If we can just get back the players not on 'clear day's'-JM, Gleed and MacDonald, then I really like our chances in the playoffs. They're not too shabby as is.

It's going to be interesting to see Weber's Cyclone playoff roster. I have enough faith in him that he will: a) only place players who will be available for most of the playoffs on it and b) won't alter team chemistry by placing a player or number of players on it who haven't played a significant role in this season's amazing success.

Unless the Cyclones get another goalie between now and the ECHL trade deadline, they will likely put either Morris or Desjardins on their playoff roster and then have someone else listed as the emergency backup until they would become available.
