...and still no starts for cedrick. you would THINK that the hamilton coaching staff would look to change things up, especially when trying to climb into the last playoff spot......

Don Lever, the Hamilton coach, ripped Cedric really badly in The Spectator-Hamilton's newspaper-after Desjardins had an absolutely horrible game. He has probably made his mind up that Cedric can't play in the AHL. One bad game and he gives up on him. What an idiot. Lever got very lucky last season when Hamilton won the Calder Cup. Carey Price-the goalie who is now with Montreal- carried the team on his shoulders. What a pity it would be to see Lever not make the playoffs a year after winning the Calder Cup.
If the organization has given up on him, then I hope he signs with someone else next season. If given a legitimate shot, then I don't see why he couldn't be a decent AHL goaltender. I mean, Dan LaCosta (formerly of Dayton), couldn't hold a candle to Cedric and he's in the NHL with Columbus right now. Only as an emergency replacement. But, he's been pretty good with Syracuse in the AHL. Cedric is easily his equal. |

| I kinda laugh every time Hamilton and Milwaukee loses.....why not give the other goalies a break and give them a shot once in a while. Dov even won his last game he played. |

so it seems then that cedrick is in the same position cory found himself with the organization. i dont really follow hamilton all that much except to check the score and see what any former clones are doing.
but i agree. if you've completely given up on a guy cut him loose and let him get a shot elsewhere. because it's not necessarily cedrick, maybe it's the team he's playing for?!
anyhow i say at this point let hamilton's coaching staff beat their heads against the wall...then we can look forward to getting some of the team back for playoffs. |

| It wasn't just one start that Desjardins played poorly in that would have Lever's mind made up that he can't play in the AHL. Desjardins didn't play well in the games he played for Hamilton last season, either. |

Its funny because in many of the hockey forums for montreal canadiens and the like Cedrick gets called one of the future goalies of the NHL along with Yann Danis, among others.
I think that he plays really well in the ECHL, I think that he has the serious potential to go higher but needs to maybe play down here a little bit longer.

Cedric played all of 7 periods (142 minutes) for Hamilton last season. he was 0-2 and had a goals against average of 2.96. Incredibly horrible stats.
The kid has a sub 2 gaa this season in the ECHL and an astounding save percentage of over 93%. If the Montreal organization doesn't find these numbers appealing, then another NHL organization will. He's 21 or 22 and has a Memorial Cup Championship (junior) on his resume. Don Lever may not think this stuff means anything, but someone else assuredly will.
Cedric isn't the best with the puck outside the crease. He's shown improvement in this area this season, but still has work to do. I'd think a 93% save percentage would trump some mediocre out of net puck handling. I look for Cedric to be full time in the AHL from the beginning of next season. |

Numbers are misleading. Case in point was Daigneault with Hershey last year. He didn't play as well as his record would indicate. The Bears coaches and players were never comfortable with him in goal.
The kind of goals Desjardins gave up last season in Hamilton was what bothered the coaches.
Desjardins won't be in the AHL full time next season. There's not an NHL organization that would feel comfortable with him as their No. 4 goalie. There are a number of teams that would have interest in him as their depth goalie in the ECHL. But most NHL teams have a young guy they see as their goalie of the future they want playing in the AHL, along with a veteran guy that can play in the NHL if necessary. |

The kinds of goals (all 7 of them) in his first 2 AHL games bothered the coaching staff that much?
Oh, I know, I know. You've spoken at length with Brisbois, Lever and Wilson about it. And Bob Gainey, no doubt.
Not one NHL organization will bite on his performance in the ECHL this year? I'm glad that you have spoken with all 30 NHL GM's and 29 AHL GM's about this.
I'll tell Cedric. He can quit wasting his time trying to move up the ladder. I'll let him know that Mr. Cincinnati Hockey himself told me with assurance that not one NHL organization "would be comfortable" with him next year.
I'm sure that he'll retire the moment he hears about your very informed (cough), typical self aggrandizing assessment.

| He has great stats with the Cyclones but he also played behind a really good team. And yes, I did actually speak to Don Lever about him. When you're getting ready to broadcast a game, part of the preparation is talking to the opposing coach after the game day morning skate about his team, as well as talking with the opposing team's broadcaster and beat writers. Desjardins was with Hamilton last season when in Hamilton for a game. I asked about him as I did every other player on the roster so I could have information on each player beyond the stats. I could have stuck to just the stats but the listeners enjoyed hearing things past the stuff they could read on Hockeydb.com such as Cory Urquhart was a contestant on the Price is Right and won some money on the show rather than just talking about his stats. If I didn't ask the coaches, beat writers and broadcasters about the team and about each guy, I wouldn't have picked up that tidbit on Urquhart to use on the broadcast. It wasn't in the game notes, media guide or hockeydb.com. |

| Yeah man... it's kind of the broadcaster's job to talk to people like that. I don't see why you guys doubt Donnie Hockey so much. He knows his stuff as well or better than anyone else in the business would. |

All right then. You had what amounted to a brief media session chat with Lever. Somehow or another, I would find it odd that a head coach would confide any concern about the "type of goals he let in" with a first year visiting team broadcaster. Something like that would likely be from your 'media sources'-secondhand, if at all. Further, speaking with Lever in a pre-game does not translate into your blanket statement that Desjardins wouldn't be a comfortable fit in any NHL organization next season.
The ECHL, at its very least, is a developmental organization for the AHL. Any goaltender with Desjardins' save percentage would warrant a long look from personnel decision-makers in the AHL/NHL. We'll see where he ends up next season. Niether I nor you have any crystal ball on this.

Three reasons: Ducks. Gardens. Robinsons. My associate with those three things was a problem for some Cyclones fans. Even though the Ducks have been gone for three years, some Cyclones fans still can't let it go. If I go to a game, Cyclones fans think I must have some sort of agenda. If I say something positive about the team, they ask what does he really mean by that. If I state the reality of the situation about something, I'm a hater. Don't know what I'm talking about. Never played the game. Whatever. Cyclones fans can knock themselves out bashing me if they want. It makes them feel better about themselves and more secure about their team. |
