What is the deal with taking a camera to the game? We wanted to take some photos but weren't allowed to bring our camera inside USBA. We were told our camera is too professional looking. It's a Canon Rebel XTi with a zoom lens, anyone can buy one! I wasn't too mad at first, just disappointed. Then I saw a guy two rows in front of me with a camera very similar to mine.  What's the deal?!! |

| Who knows... it honestly depends on the guy or girl you have checking your bag when you go in. I have been fine half of last season and this whole season with mine, but I got hustled about it Wednesday night. Typically if the lens doesn't come off, you're okay. But like I said... it depends on the guy you get. I have a Canon S3 and the lens does not come off and the guy was trying to give me **** about it on Wed. Drape your jersey over your bag or something so they don't see it hahaha that's bad, but once you're inside the building you're fine. |

| look i have the same problems with these people...i own a fujifilm 6000, and they keep trying to tell me it has a detachable lens (you are not allowed to bring cameras with detachable lenses) but when they pull this ****, me and my father start yelling at them (he has the SAME CAMERA!!!) if you dont want any bulls**t with the security, dont put it in a bag, put it around your neck |

| This topic has gotten alot of run this year, I spoke with admin regarding the policy and some there felt that a change was in the works but as of yet no change.....we own a Nikon D70s and we spent alot of money to see disney on ice with our 2year old, she was dressed in 100.00 worth of Disney gear and we were not allowed to take the camera in. We were without anyway to document the event....the police was eventually summond because for some reason I felt that we lived in Russia...and I dropped a few f bombs, which I regret now being I was around so many children..but I was beyond frustrated at that time. I wrote a letter to Disney, in which I recieved quite a few gift items for Our daughter...a program from the event..A 10.00 value and a nice letter apoligizing for the USBA staff and their behavor. Same letter was sent to the general manager of the USBA.....nothing, I've heard nothing! The feeling is...from what I heard is the policy has been set up for events like Hannah Montana, where someone might take nice photos and make money on those photos, The policy is enforced throughout all events..including cyclones game to prevent staff confusion. I'm sorry this is long but this paranoia has been a problem for years.....One year we caught Chris Drury alone after a Avalanche, Bluejackets game one year, I actually had a couple of his cards on the chance, his comments, am i going to find these on ebay?, well Mr millioniare. seriously what if you do? I'm standing to make what 20 bucks from the card sale. So many entertainment types are concerned that monies are being generated by the taking of pictures of events being held at USBA. one more thing. I actually believe that the person taking a picture actually has to be the professional, not just the camera.... |

| I can bring mine in, but its a little kodak digital, nothing too fancy. But yea, I think its bull that they get on you for bringing a nice camera in so you can take NICE PICTURES of the game. |

| Thats just it......recently I have just broght in our smaller camera. actually our smaller camera has a further zoom than our D70. I stopped years ago trying to get good pictures of the folks on the ice, I simply bring ours in now to take pictures of our family and friends as well as our daughters at the games. The problem i have is we purchased the D70 digital to get rid of multiple cameras....it is interesting to point out that i have taken said same camera to larger venues wearing the camera in plain veiw around my neck, one staff actually asked me to open the case and then said thanks, let us in without diff. Nationwide Arena, Joe Louis, Pepsi.....all have never had a problem with our camera....USBA staff has made some progress in the right direction, but there are a few that work there should just get the ax....A Cyclones game is not a phish concert...they need to lighten up |

| i agree, and im pretty sure almost everyone on here has seen the kind of photos i take at the games with my fujifilm 6000 and i have had it with me all year...i time o remember i was at a pervious game and a women checked my camera bag and said it was ok, but the next game i went to...she stopped me and said it was too big??? WTF!!! i almost lost my cool but she was pissing me off and she finally said i can bring it in...but i wasnt allowed to use it!!! ( hey i still used it anyway and she didnt say squat!) all i can say about the USBA staff is.....DEE DEE DEE!!! |

| What I do is wear a big sweatshirt with a pouch under my jersey, and stick my camera inside there. When I take a picture, and an usher says something. I tell them if this team was not here you would not have a job for 36 days a year. I am kind of an ass at times when it comes to stupid rules. |

| We have been bringing our cameras to the games that is until Friday night. The person checking peoples bags outside said that our cameras were too big (apparantly they grew). The person checking bags has seen our cameras almost on a constant basis (she was rude also). So after taking them back to the car we sat and enjoyed the game.....until the lady sitting two behind us had a camera the size of ours. After the game I found an employee of us bank arena (not the ones that check bags but a supervisor) and asked him what the camera policy was. He said that point and shoot cameras were allowed (that is what we have). He also said that on the website it says what is allowed to be brought in. After checking the cyclones website and us bank arenas website, I cannot find it anywhere. He also said it is printed on the back of the tickets but its printed real small. I just find it rather funny that one game it's fine to bring it and the next it's not. I wish they would clarify what type of cameras are allowed in as to aviod yhis mess. Last year they kept saying my camera has a detatchable lens which it does not- I handed it to one person and told him I paid $600.00 for this camera and if he breaks it he bought it. |

Unfortunately, this is a "rules are rules" situation. I sell digital cameras for a living and I do agree that they have a misconception of what a "professional camera" is. Then again, where do you draw the line? The XT and XTi can get in, but the 40D can't? The D40 can but the D80 can't?
The house rule for USBA for years has been "no professional cameras" which is defined as any camera with a detachable lens.
The reason for this rule is simply that they pay a photographer to take photos of the games and they own the rights to those photos. If any fan could come in with a camera, they could take excellent photos and do whatever they wanted with them (sell them, put them on the internet, etc) and the team wouldn't see any of that money. |

I have a Konica Minolta camera that doesn't have a detachable lens but has a 10X zoom and takes great pictures. In my mind it looks pretty professional but the several times I have taken it in nobody has said a word. My wife brings in her little pink Polaroid camera fairly often but it doesn't look like much and the zoom isn't worth the effort. It is good for taking pictures of friends who stop by to visit but not worth trying to take pictures on the ice.
The sad truth is that as much as I love the Cyclones nobody is interested in buying any of our Cyclones photos. They need to enforce the camera rule for the shows with big stars and ignore it for minor league hockey. |

Can you imagine how pissed off someone that either walked, took a bus, or a cab would be if they were denied going into the arena because they have a professional looking camera? |

| but i dont understand why sercurity gets there panties in a bunch about the camera my sister has a nice camera here that they wont let her bring in BUT she has taken the camera into every other arena (echl) that we have been in, the Predators arena, AND Nationwide Arena, what make this any different!? |

Unfortunately, you kind of hit the nail on the head. USBA hasn't been run very well for a few years now. The fact that you can barely breathe in the hallways when there are more than 3,000 people in attendance is another example of how the venue is show its age and showing how, for looking like a modern venue, it's pretty obsolete. The ticketing process is terrible too. I've learned to just call one of the ticket agents and order them by phone in order to bypass the lines. Say what you want about them, but the fact of the matter is, you can wait in line for well over a half hour for tickets at Bank when there are 3,000 in attendance, and wait 10 minutes right next door when there are 30,000 in attendance. Obviously, there are a TON of factors involved in that, but it is what it is.
The camera policy is one that you have to accept if you have a DSLR. The only venues that really allow them in are most baseball stadiums and most racing tracks. Why they allow them? I really don't know. I'm sure 99% of the people who bring in their "professional" cameras genuinely bring them for personal use, but unfortunately a few bad apples mess it up for the entire class. It does say it on the web site that "professional" cameras are not allowed, but I do agree that it's a lofty assumption that people would read that far into the web site. It should be posted, along with other house rules (no food/drink/laser pointers) long before you ever reach the door. Unfortunately, that's not something that any venue really does. |
