Las Vegas Wranglers
First off,the fans of both Vegas and the visiting Utah people could not have been
friendlier to my wife and I. As you know,talking about the Clones is not a problem
and walking around their arena in our jerseys made us very noticeable. All their fans
were eager to talk about the team and everyone was thinking finals for sure. It’s easy
to see when your playing a team you beat 10 out of 11 in the regular season.It’s not
fair the East path when we face a team in our conference final that we never played in
the regular season and they played one they faced 11 times.
As for the Wranglers. I think we only saw their “B” game because that was all they
needed. I think we would have beaten Utah missing our #1 line and #1 goalie-at least
it would have taken Utah 7 games if they beat us. First game Utah played very aggressive
and came right at Las Vegas.All they did was steal one pass after another or take Utah’s
misses and come right up and score on them.Game two Utah played more under control
and it was like the Reading 1-0 loss.However,Las Vegas had a 2-1 lead and bad officials
and a pulled goalie allowed Utah to tie it with ½ second left(and probably after the game
was over in real life).Las Vegas came out and ended it very quickly in overtime.
The keys I saw to playing Las Vegas.First, play smart hockey and don’t overreact to play.
that means no turnovers and defense let the goalie see their shots. They like to pack it
in so stay away from statues in front (like you at times Chad).Second, they have players
that will dish out blind hits any chance they get. Maybe since they knew Utah so well,
this happened more often. Their fans claimed they are a non-fighting team, but I sense it
is a team a lot like Trenton.Third, the goalie is good,but he likes to drop down flat to the
ice and kick both legs left and right. The bottom is covered, but the top corners are open.
Utah scored their goals by shooting up.Utah reminded me of Dayton.Yes we beat them,
but every game was an early battle.Las Vegas likes to coast in the second and that is
when we are at our best.
Las Vegas’s arena is like the Nutter Center with no fans on one end. It’s a great place with
cheaper food than us,more concessions and friendlier ushers. We sat on the penalty
Box side and they have a neat feature of rolling the end net up between periods and lowering
before the next. Their mascot is “The Duke” and looks like “Gapper” from the
Reds! If anyone wants some Vegas ideas,we have gone about 15 times.I’m going to miss
The trip because we just got back on Saturday.

Thanks for the scouting info, bags.
They sound like a quick and opportunistic bunch-just like us. On paper, we would appear to have a bit more offensive firepower. We had something on the order of 40 more goals than LV did during the regular season and allowed one less. Our power play was about 2% better than their's and the penalty kills were effectively even.
If Daoust and Aubin can contribute and Beauregard is ok, then I really like our chances. I hope the power play gets better. It just hasn't looked too sharp most of the time during the playoffs. Perhaps #39 could be removed from the pp-at least some of the time. Not a fan of either his passing or his pinching judgement nor his ability to get back on defense during the power play. Or for that matter, anytime. Me no like him. I'd think we'd be much better served with Latendresse as the pp quarterback. He passes much better than Schmidt and he can launch some bullets.
Seems as if the goaltending is about equal-excellent. I'll assume that Weber goes with Cedric unless he falters.
Can't wait until the series starts. Am very much looking forward to going to LV. It's nice to have a 'legitimate reason' to go. LOL. |
