The game I attended and the game I worked had great crowds. They were rowdy and very loud. It was a great atmosphere. Sad to see them go. I wonder how many of those tics were comps though. I imagine there overhead was lower than the Clones. Since they didn't have to make ice and run a Zam. Time will tell.
I don't know if it's necessarily bad, but it can't be good for the 'Clones. I've never been a big beiiever in the "we need to have a team that isn't financially viable to fill dates" theory, but if that is what the arena looks at then cutting 8 or so dates from the arena in the summer may mean that they aren't looking just to run the lights as much as possible anymore. There's obviously a chance 35 or so dates will be cut next year for another team at that building if they're losing money on it. I don't have any idea what's happening, it's just speculation, but it wouldn't be an impossibility. It's hard to say whether or not the team is in the black financially, the concessions and promotion to people at Cyclones games for other events at the arena are really the only redeeming qualities at this point, because ticket sales probably aren't going to pay the bills.
It doesn't look good. They've run the building without hockey before. Guess that means more Amy Grant/Vince Gill & Kenny Rogers concerts in the wintertime!
