The one million dollar question- why does the team play so good like last night, then the next day play like a pack of school boys? Maybe the added lights helped them(I guess we need to start bringing sunglasses)see the puck better. Maybe the pre game talk helped pump up Coach Chris to get his players going. Either way we were treated to a hard played game that featured one Wheeling flop after another and two goals that I won't even blame Randy for. How about a TWO MAN down short handed goal!If only we had some kind of power play. One thing the meeting did for me was answer many questions on the roster. I can't believe the league won't allow an opposing team to talk with a player if their team has agreed to trade them.I can also see the loss of better players for cheaper ones when all our salary cap is being eaten up by injured players. |

Thanks for a bit of recap for the game last night. Always has been a question for me how the team can be so unified one night and the next play 'out of sorts'. Beings as I had to work last night and was not able to attend the pregame meeting..........could you give me a recap of what was talked about and said. seems to me their were a lot of questions about why the roster has gone through so many changes.
Thanks in Advance |

Some of the things Chris said were: 1. Randy was sent to us by Carolina and we promised to keep him on the roster unless he was called up. 2. When we make a trade,we don't have a chance to talk with the player to see if they will report. If they don't we have two options, take back our player and stop the trade or suspend or retrade the player who doesn't want to come to us. 3. Injured players count against the salary cap. It looks like as a result our roster is paying the price by needing cheaper players to cover the injured salaries. 4. Terry Marchant was the way for us to pay Eric Cheverie's salary. 5. The club also has housing and food responsibilities that limit us to how many extra players we might be able to have in the mix If I am wrong above, please let me know( I also want to know). |

Matt Dunne also said that he doesn't know if the team will be back next year. He repeated that this town can not support 2 minor league Hockey Teams. He wouldn't say anymore, although he did say that he is making plans for next season..... At least he isn't lieing to us.... I thought that the team played hard last night. |

the key for this team is to play the bodies hard. is it not obvious to see when we go out and throw the other team around and finish checks.. we play like a solid unit?
kind of ironic how the team is flat the 1st period and almost intimidated by wheeling's first place status... 2nd period worlton finally gets his first shift... big check... and the team comes alive.
i know a lot of you do not like Worlton, and i didn't like his game before he actually started playing hard and keeping his head in the game. i don't know if its just Chico sending him out to goon it up or what. but he did have MANY chances to go last night. every guy on Wheeling seemed to yap it up with him. he kept his head straight though.
i like how we completely shut Jaffray out of the game as well. goes to show you when this guy can't skate freely... he's not as good as his scoring stats show.

The sad thing is that at this point I'm not sure if I care if they come back...
I've been a loyal Cyclones season ticket holder for a long time, but this whole season has done a lot to make me disinterested. I'm tired of the "we're not sure if there will be a team next year" roller coaster, the ownership switching every other year, the staff turning over every few months (I mean the front office staff, don't even get me started on Chico's trades), and the lack of fire in this team. I can stand the team losing, but when it looks like they don't care if they win I have a problem with that.
I can't say that I know this for sure, but I have a hard time believing that players on the IR count against your salary cap, if they do, then the ECHL is the most foolishly run league in existence. In that scenario, if your two highest paid players go down for any kind of time, your season's essentially over, since you can't bring in anyone to replace them.
Even if that is true, somehow all the other team's in the league seem to deal with injuries without gutting their whole roster three times over.
I used to be excited about a Cyclones game for days before the actual game, and even followed the team during the playoffs last year while I was in Minneapolis on business... Now, I we decide an hour before game time if we're even going.
Chico can make any excuses he wants, it still doesn't change the fact that he took a franchise that went to seven games in the Conference Finals last year and turned it into a team that can't connect on a pass, gives up goals regularly on the first five shots, rarely finishes a check, and will most likely finish dead last in our division.
Congrats Chico, on being the first Cyclones coach in twelve years to miss the playoffs and turning our team into a laughing stock. |

The problem I have with Jeff Worlton is real simple,no goals no assists and the refs know he probably is going to hit someone when he is on the ice. This would be okay if we had a solid one or two scoring line, but who is he protecting? I see Tyler Deis being manhandled and nothing is being done.No wonder he isn't scoring like he first did.At least Howie when he was here gave us an effort on offense. I would rather see Jeff moved to defense and put a scoring forward out there. |

Well said Cyc. I couldn't agree more. I still don't think I'm ready to be a ducks fan. My question...If Dunne had the belief that Cincinnati cannot support 2 minor league hockey teams then why did he take the job in the first place? Do you really think you are going to put much effort into something if you believe in your heart you are just going to fail? The whole situation is just sad. At least I'll have all my great memories of years past.

| he's probably jerking us around in the first place. already knowing what is to come... but doesn't want to say so 'til this seasons over and gone so they can try to scrap up any remains of cash they can make. afraid most of us won't even bother to go to the rest of this awful seasons remaining games. |

When you talk about the management probably knows we won't be back, I really don't believe that. The loss of the Swarm is maybe 8-10 dates which can possibly be replaced by two concerts. Losing a hockey season is a whole different case. The only way I could see that happening is if the plans are to tear down the building and replace it with some big happening. My guess is we have one more season to sink or swim.If the team has an offseason with everything in place,we might be able to get more businesses in our corner.I hope what his statement on two teams means is that without media help, only one team has a chance to prosper. I AM NOT READY TO THROW THE TOWEL IN YET!!! |

The whole "Cincinnati can't support two minor league teams" bull**** is getting old. It has supported two teams for the past six years. The problem is it can't support two poor playing teams. I remember nights a few years ago when each barn had over 8000 people in them on the same night.
Maybe the answer lies here:

The WHA is just another league to give this franchise the shaft.Okay we join the league, play one year with the NHL on strike, then the strike is settled, the league (WHA) folds, and the ECHL tells us to take a flying leap over rejoining. Our biggest mistake was leaving the ECHL the first time.I guess the WHA fans think the NHL is too stupid to field a replacement team.Don't forget we were going to do it last fall. |

Um... I believe most of us are season ticket holders so they've already got our cash.
I don't see how Dunne can be considered to be jerking us around. He's said there's a possibility the 'clones could be back but there are a couple factors involved. But it would be nice to go through a summer without having the big f'kin' "Are they or aren't they?" hanging over us. |

To quote Holden McNeil in "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back", it'll be the worst idea since Greedo shot first. |

I checked out that web site and got a great laugh. Click on history and they talk about the 70's! You probably can find an IHL site still floating around with Cincinnati listed on it.If the management can't pay for an ECHL roster, why would they consider a league at probably four times the cost.Unless the Robinson's are going to get rid of the Ducks and the Nederlander group the ECHL Cyclones and the two go in together on one team,I don't see it happening.LONG LIVE THE CYCLONES! (I know but it beats "disclaimer on file") |
