Sorry REVVED, I just got on a role and couldn't help the shot at the
various closing messages. I really have enjoyed the Cyclones since the
second year(I missed the first) and all the negative comments against
the management is taking their tolls. No one is without blame for this
season,so lets just end it and come back stronger next year-IN THE ECHL

clonzfan- I need to disagree with your comment that just a few years ago each team had 8000 in their buildings,I have been here for a while and I really do not remember those days.Truth be known since the other team started up neither team has been successful financially. In regards to your comment about poor playing teams I do recall us going along way last year in the playoffs and how many fans were showing up not 8000 not even 1000 (2) teams will not work in the same city trust me on that.....Mark Mills

I think what was meant was we have had single days when both teams have
drawn 8,000 fans at their games. The only way I think two teams might be
able to survive would be both run from the same office,in other words
both run by the same owner. Even then it probably wouldn't work and it
needs to be one team. I can't blame management pulling the plug if we
are losing money that bad, but I still would like one more year with
discount ticket nights and cheap promotions to see if we could get the
fans back.Simple math-2,000 fans at $10 each is $20,000. Drop the prices
to average $8 and draw 3,000 fans is $24,000 plus 1,000 more people
buying food and souvenirs.

Well Millsey, then I hope someone is chasing the Ducks out of town or the Cyclones are in trouble.

I haven't seen a lot in the way of marketing, promotions, or continuity in anything from the arena that leads me to believe that there's a plan in place to make things better. I hope I'm wrong, but from the outside looking in, it looks like the feet have no idea what the hands are doing.

Promotions need to start at the grassroots. Word-of-mouth goes a long way and is very cheap! Problem is it takes hundreds of positive comments to make a difference, but only one negative to destroy it. That's where we are now. The constant fighting of Ducks fans versus Cyclones fans has killed hockey in this town and the obvious lack of media and MEANINGFUL promotion has made resuscitation near impossible. Ownership has shot itself in the foot, manangement has shot itself in the other foot, and ultimately WE have helped provide the bullets by being so petty!

Cincinnati's Tri-State area has over 2 million people, more than enough to show up to an occasional game. There is no easy answer, because no one can force the TV, radio & print people cover the game, we can't force people to show up and pay $9 per ticket, another $6 for parking AND buy souveniers and refreshments. NASCAR night was a start - we need more sponsorships like Home Depot & WLWT to afford the 5000+ tickets to give away and do everything possible to spread the word that HEY WE'RE HERE!!! Imagine if even the slightest effort was made to announce that 12000 tickets were available for a Wednesday game against Idaho - we would have had a heck of a lot more that 6112!

Millsey, it has been done, it can be done AND IT MUST BE DONE! Gonzoid is the media guru, I've been doing what I can to get word out through the Fan Club site, ECHLInsider, OurSportsCentral, SportzDomain Network, InTheCrease and other sources. Many of the people that post here also post on IntoTheBoards and other messageboards. If we have to, stomp every bar, park, restaurant, sports complex, video store, grocery, wherever to hand out flyers, tack posters, give out schedules!

People, it can be done - but only if we're willing try! That means Matt, Millsey, Chico, Aaron, Slick Rick, all the way down to Tyler, our unofficial mascot.

Give up? Give Up?!? We will NEVER give up! Did we give up when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell NO - and we're not going to give up now! Who's with me?!? Aaaaarrrrrrrrggghhhh!!!

CYCFAN, I APPRECIATE YOUR CONCERNS. HOWEVER, I THINK THAT WHEN THE TEAM WAS PURCHASED BY THE BUILDING, ONE OF THE BIGGEST ADJUSTMENTS WAS THAT NO ONE FROM THE BUILDING SIDE HAD RUN A TEAM BEFORE. CHRIS CICHOCKI AND I WERE THE ONLY PEOPLE IN THE BUILDING WITH PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE. WITH THAT BEING SAID, AFTER BEING A MEMBER OF LAST YEAR'S TEAM AND COMPARING IT WITH THIS YEAR'S TEAM, FROM AN OPERATIONAL STANDPOINT-IT'S 1000 TIMES BETTER. WE'VE SPENT ALOT MORE MARKETING DOLLARS THIS SEASON THAN THE PREVIOUS TEAM SPENT IN TWO SEASONS. PERHAPS, WE DIDN'T SPEND THEM WISELY OR IN THE RIGHT AREAS. WE USE YOUR FEEDBACK TO TRY TO ADJUST OUR STRATEGY SO PLEASE FEEL FREE TO LET US KNOW WHERE YOU'D LIKE TO SEE US MARKET OUR TEAM. AS FAR AS PROMOTIONS, ORIGINALLY WE DIDN'T HAVE A NASCAR NIGHT SET. WE WERE ABLE TO GET THE NASCAR CHAMPION, BUT UNFORTUNATELY IT HAD TO BE A WEDNESDAY NIGHT. WE DECIDED IT WAS BETTER TO HAVE IT ON A WEDNESDAY THAN TO NOT HAVE A NASCAR NIGHT AT ALL. AS FAR AS NOT HAVING A PLAN, I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT WE ARE HARD AT WORK TO INSURE THAT THIS IS A SUCCESS. WE SPEND MANY LATE NIGHT HERE TRYING TO IMPROVE OUR FANS' EXPERIENCE. WITH A SEASON UNDER OUR BELTS, EVERYONE HERE HAS A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT IT TAKES TO MAKE THIS A SUCCESS. WE ARE ALL COMMITTED TO MAKING SURE THIS WORKS. I'VE BEEN WITH THE ORGANIZATION FOR 10 SEASONS AND I CALL CINCINNATI HOME. I'VE TURNED DOWN JOBS IN HIGHER LEAGUES TO STAY HERE BECAUSE I REALLY WANT TO SEE THIS ORGANIZATION SUCCEED. I REALLY DO APPRECIATE YOUR COMMENTS AND CONCERNS. FEEL FREE TO E-MAIL (MMILLS@CYCLONESHOCKEY.COM) OR CALL (513-421-4111 EXT 122) ME TO EXPRESS ANY IDEAS OR CONCERNS YOU HAVE. WE WANT THE FANS TO HAVE A VOICE IN OUR ORGANIZATION.

Revved-I agree with your comments about the Cyclones vs. the Ducks. Just like two guys fighting over the same girl. Eventually, the girl will get fed up and tell the guys to get lost. It's the same with this situation. Everyone here is doing what you've suggested-beating the bushes to get the word out. We'd greatly appreciate any help our fans can give us to do this. You will be a major part of the rejuvenation of this franchise.

I want the powers-that-be to tell Matt "Yes, we're committing to x-number of seasons". Right now there is so much speculation and waning confidence. Announce NOW there will be a 2004-05 season and give us that 6 months to strengthen our resolve and get on track! That killed us this year with the power struggle and the strike - don't let Nederlander repeat it. Momentum starts today!

I received an E-mail yesterday about the Cyclones appearance 2-25.
My question is why hasn't the ticket department ever contacted me about
how everything is going with our seats or how they might be able to help
us out. The only contact I've had was before the season started and
a problem happened with my address. For all I know, we have no ticket
sales department or my two tickets aren't important to them.Being my
first actual season ticket holder year, is this the way it's always
been?

I'm looking at an article from 1999 from the Cincinnati Enquirer that states when the teams went head to head in the 97-98 season, the Cyclones averaged 8780 fans and the Ducks 5072. Another article from October 11, 1999 states "When the Cyclones and Mighty Ducks opened their seasons October 2, it was the first of 14 nights when both teams are scheduled to play on the same night at home. The Cyclones won the attendance battle, 10,923 to 7,075." Not quite 8000 for the Ducks, but a total of almost 18,000 people watched hockey in Cincinnati that night. My point is, where did all these hockey fans go?

On February 7, 2004, both teams played at home. The Ducks drew 6,105 and the Cyclones drew 2,432. That is a total of 8,537. Where did almost 10,000 fans go?

I have backed this team since day one, thru some times that really pissed alot of people off. It seemed like every promotion last year ended up screwed up. I got on internet boards and defended this team to the point of getting banned from In the Crease. This year, I'm fed up. How many times can you give out thundersticks? Whats up with throwing candy in the crowd? Are we at a parade? I'm tired of watching people race bikes on ice at intermission.

One of the benefits of being a season ticket holders:

"PASS PROGRAM:
Season ticket holders may purchase tickets to U.S. Bank Arena events in advance of the public on-sale date. Disclaimer: Opportunity may be restricted by show promoter."
Never have been offered this during this season.

another one:

MEET THE TEAM PARTY:
Get to know the 2003-04 Cyclones at the annual "Meet the Team" Party.
Didn't get the invitation to this event!

Like I said before, I love(d) this team. I went on bus trips to support them on the road and hardly ever missed a game we played in Dayton. My licence plate is CYCLONZ for Christ sake!

It just isn't there anymore, sorry.
