Word has it that Tyler has committed to play his college hockey at Miami starting in 2011. He's currently playing for the U17 USA National Development team in Ann Arbor.
He'll be joining Jimmy Mullin, another player who played several years @ Northern Kentucky who will also be starting @ Miami in 2011. He's currently a senior at Shattuck St. Marys playing on their their top prep team.
This brings the total of local kids commiting to DI prgrams within the past year to 4 (Chris Crane - Ohio State 2010, CJ Groh Alabama-Huntsville 2010). |

| Tyler is a very nice kid. Haven't seen him in about 3 years, but I remember him being near the top of his game at least in comparison to his colleagues. Maybe some of his daddy's talent rubbed off on him. |

| I heard he has his temper on the ice too. Hope he can use it well on the ice. |

| Scored both goals in the gold medal game for the win, not a bad start to say the least. |

Does anyone know if this kid started playing hockey in Cincinnati? If so, then when did he leave to play elsewhere?
It just fascinates me to see the growth in the quality of the youth hockey in Cincinnati since I played (30+ years ago). Former Cyclone Jason Deitsch played in Cincy until he moved to Indy (at about age 12) and current Dayton Gem Matt Auffrey is listed as being born in Cincinnati. I have no idea if he started playing here or not.
The thought of playing pro hockey (at any level) or getting a college scholarship never even occurred to any of us who were playing back then.

Tyler Biggs began playing hockey in Cincinnati in the mid 1990's while his father was playing for the IHL Cyclones.

Tyler played in Cincy up to last year, when he played in Toronto. Now with the USA u17 development team.
Most of the kids getting to college (at least D1) from this area had to move away during high school years to get that opportunity. I don't think moving away was really an option prior to 8-10 years ago. |

Thanks for the info.
I'm going to have to check out a high school game at some point. I saw a few club games of Lakota a few years ago-a buddy of mine's daughter played on the team-but other than a few players, they weren't that good.
Who are the best teams in the area this season? Where to they play? |

| I heard Moeller is doing pretty well. A friend has a boy on the team. They play at the gardens. |

Traditionally, Moeller has been one of the stronger local programs, But St. X and Oxford-Talawanda have had some good teams over the years. I think, over the past couple years as more schools add club hockey teams, more players are opting to play high school vs. midget hockey (or playing A/AA Midgets so they can still play high school as well) so the quality going up.
Moeller's schedule: http://www.moeller.org/Page.aspx?pid=739
Moeller left the local league to play in the more competitive captial league: http://www.capitalhockeyconference.com/
The local league site is here: http://www.swohshl.com/
