The Montreal Canadiens, without anyone in their minor league system that can step in and score at the NHL level, are looking to land a scorer in a deal involving backup goaltender Jaroslav Halak.
The Les Canadiens de Montral will likely have to include a draft pick along with Halak to obtain the scorer they need.

The Canadiens offered Halak to Philadelphia for Jeff Carter, but Flyers GM Paul Holmgren nixed the deal. He thinks he can get more in return for Carter.

An update on the Canadiens/Flyers trade talk: The Flyers are looking to send goalie Brian Boucher and center Jeff Carter to Montreal for center Tomas Plekanec, defenseman Hal Gill and goalie Jaroslav Halak.
