Couldn't find a forum or site for Bombers fans, but it always seemed to me that the Dayton Bombers had some pretty loyal fans. Was just wondering if anyone knew how/if the former Bombers fans were receptive of the Dayton Gems.

Anyone been up to a Gems game? I'm going up to a game against the Komets on the 30th.

Although no one replied, it seems I got my own question answered last night when I went to the Dayton Gems game against the Fort Wayne Komets with TwoMinutesWellWorthIt, my dad and another friend.

I love the Gardens, but always heard that Hara lacked the kind of old hockey charm the Gardens had and was a dump, where as the Gardens was still a great place to catch a game. Walking into the arena is like walking into the movie slapshot and parking was free. The arena looks, feels and smells old. There's no video scoreboard and the smoking section looks like a scene (to quote TwoMinutesWellWorthIt) "straight out of Ninja Turtles." However, the sightlines, atmosphere and action were great. For 10 bucks there's not a bad seat in the house and you have great views of the action. I love IHL games in Ft. Wayne as well.

That being said, while i had a great time and the pizza is excellent ($3.50 for a homemade slice as big as your forearm tops ****ty Donato's pizza anyday), I saw only one Dayton Bombers jersey. Talking with a couple fans outside it seems many of the die hard Bomber fans aren't really into the Gems. I wonder if that's just some sort of bitterness or no interest. Hara is kind of a pain in the ass to get to if you're coming from 75, but oh well. I enjoyed that Gems game at Hara more than I enjoyed Bomber games at the Nutter Center.

I've seen several people with Bombers jerseys up there. As far as the loyal fans, there was some initial interest from the "Bomb Squad," but I really do think the lower level of play as well as the terrible management drove them off.
I looked for Jericho et al the couple of games I've been too, but none of that crowd- just some others I've talked with who used to come down to Cincinnati for Bomber games. They deserve a better fate.

I guess technically it is a lower level of play, but it seems to be considered "AA," just not "premier AA." All the Fort Wayne games I've been to and last night's Gems game I'd put right on par with the level of play found in the ECHL. From what fans were saying though, the crowds have been kind of dim, maybe they should do something more to try and market towards the former Bombers fans. Dayton definitely had a loyal hockey crowd and I really miss the rivalry with the Cyclones.
