So almost two dozen Cyclones fans were thrown out of tonights game without warning for building beer-a-mids. This is something that has been done for years. Additionally, no one was given any type of warning in terms of, "hey stop building that or you'll be asked to leave." They were thrown out half way through the game without warning.

Beer-a-mids and beer-a-mid builders will both be welcome at the Gardens for the Cincinnati IHL team in the near future.

I believe it was the people that THREW beer cans down to aid in building the Beer-a-mids that were thrown out. In fact, the ones that built the huge one actually brought down a recycling can and picked up all the beer cans after it toppled.

I was sitting on the side near Kalamazoo's bench and didn't see anyone throw any beer cans. The fans were really into the game and made it a fun environment. Almost 3 rows of people were asked to leave. Don't get me wrong, the USBA employees seemed like they were very polite about it but the problem I have is that no one came down and said, "Hey, stop building the beer-a-mids or we'll ask you to leave." They built and rebuilt the beer-a-mid 3 or 4 times before being ejected.

it seems the issue here is the lack of communication among the arena staff, which we all know has it's issues.

to the left of "section 60" (sec 140) there was a large group which constructed a beer-a-mid several times with no issues. there were several people who did throw cans down to add to the building materials and were tossed out.

i didn't not see what happened down at the other end, but if the group of fans was kicked out simply for building a beer-a-mid, while at the same time they were being built in other areas of the arena it doesn't seemed warranted; especially with out warning.

i hope the arena staff can get on the same page to provide a safe and fun environment for all those who come out on the discount beer nights.

Should I even bother asking for a source, or will the question be avoided like in all the other threads?

Where I was sitting they threw a couple people out for constructing "beer-a-mid's," then at one point a couple of the staff came down and instructed the folks that they were not allowed to bang on the upper parts of the glass, but only towards the bottom." Near the end of the night I was sitting behind the away goal opposite of section 60 and an employee came down to watch the crowd, they came down to all the sections. A couple folks were jokingly giving him a hard time saying "feel like we're in prison" and "we don't need a babysitter."

I like the dollar beer nights and the crowd, but the arena needs a consistent policy for dealing with it (and other things). In the other thread someone recommended a "don't be a jackass" video on the scoreboard. That's not a bad idea, but i don't know if anyone else noticed tonight that the scoreboard's two "good" sides were not working and the rear projection sides suck.

The one being built in sec 114 had some assistance with cans by air delievery. One wizzed over my head in sec 112 from somewhere in 110. They were a frat and sorority house out on Winter rush, and were having a blast. The idiot who threw the cans over two sections should have been kicked out. Not the kids.

I'll chime in here, with an outsider's perspective.

I know in Kalamazoo they allow "beer-a-mids" and have for some time. At least, they have in the recent past. Last year during the Pink Ice game on Valentine's there was a really, really big one at the end opposite the zamboni. We happened to be sitting at that end. People were leaving their seats to take down more to add to it, and cheered when it got to a decent size.

It almost sounds to me like everyone is only getting part of the picture, in terms of why people were booted. People don't get booted for no reason -- it doesn't make for a fan wanting to return. Maybe a couple got caught up in it and didn't do much of anything, but that'll happen sometimes.

If i were you guys, I'd be much more concerned about the allegation in the game thread about personnel having a problem with people pounding the glass. That, to me, is bizarre and I can't say I've ever heard of that before at a hockey game at any level. Shoot, the first thing I did upon taking my kids to their first hockey game was to teach them to pound on the glass and when to do it!

There's banging on the glass and then there's trying to bring the glass down...what I've seen at times is groups of people in the first row, some standing on the first row seat, putting almost full body into the glass, especially higher up on the glass in attempt to make the glass rock back & forth....that's destructive & dangerous.

And is seems to the case with this "security" group, in an attempt to prevent that it gets read as "no banging period"...

I agree with fangers, there is absolutely no reason to bang and shake the glass from the top, easiest way to dislodge or break it. People should only be doing it around the middle or closer to the bottom anyway.

Although none of the behaviors by either side will end up in an IHL team coming to Cincinnati.

What the hell does this have to do with the IHL? Can we finally ban these people who keep trying to think another team is coming to play here?

As for the beer cans, beer-a-mids shouldn't be allowed unless the people sitting behind it don't mind. Other people are trying to watch the game. I busted a small one because the kids sitting at least 8 rows above me came down to the first row without even asking me and it was in my view.

The only place I saw them yelling at groups for banging on the glass was near section 134 where it typically comes lose. There's been a few times in the past couple home games where they've stopped play and taken some time to put it back in place.

And how would they do this at the gardens? If I recall the first row of seats are not on the boards but separated by both a walk-way and a wall.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
