Columbia's been trying to get that arena built since 2006 and are no closer now than they were then. They won't be back in 2 years even, they're toast. It's embarrassing that the league continues to pretend they'll be back... its' kinda' like how the IHL continues to insist the Chicago Hounds will be back.

From a logic standpoint, it's good that the league is moving forward and not planning on "adding" any markets (unless they simply become available with the demise of the IHL or somesuch thing of course). As I've been telling anyone that will listen lately, the current "AA" landscape has 44 teams between 3 leagues. It can't support that many teams, and it's actually actively hurting the "A" level at this point which is why we are seeing really poor leagues like the AAHL absolutely crashing and burning.

Somehow the "AA" needs to sort out into the strongest 30 or so markets, free up some good players for the "A" level, and there needs to be a start-up league in the midwest/Great Lakes to rival the "A" SPHL. Some of these IHL and ECHL markets that are struggling now wouldn't struggle so much with paying "A" salaries probably, and the level of play wouldn't even be a noticable drop-off from the current "AA", while the "AA" level would then improve considerably on-ice and not be quite so dilluted.

To me, unless they can cherry-pick some former AHL or IHL markets as they or their leagues flounder, standing pat is the smart thing. The ECHL can stand pat, wait out some other leagues, and let the teams come to them basically. No sense in adding 45th and 46th "AA" teams to a mix that already doesn't have the talent pool and resources to support what they have.

So who gets the 3 team division-the east (current home of Johnstown)
or the South (former home of Charlotte) ? How about Indy joining,
coming to ours, Wheeling going to the East and Greenville going to
the south. Dayton,Louisville,Lexington or even Fort Wayne the same
way would also work! Just wishing.
