Did any of you see this story in the Enquirer? I nkow Ducks chatter was banned from this forum years ago, but what do you think about this? How would this affect a Cyclones return?
It seems odd that they are talking about 'possibly' leaving, yet it seems like the team will certainly be leaving for Maine. Also, how is the that the Ducks don't know if they will be moving or not? Does the AHL have the power to yank a team from their owners and them to another city? And not to bash the Ducks managment, but if they are committed to having AHL hockey in Cincinnati, why are they leaving? Are they being forced to move/sell?

Team's exit would come year after Cyclones called it quits

A Mighty Ducks official said Wednesday that Cincinnati's minor-league hockey team could be moving after this season.
"Absolutely, it's a possibility they could go elsewhere," said Don Helbig, spokesman for the American Hockey League team.
The Mighty Ducks could end up in Portland, Maine. The AHL ownership that was left behind by the Portland Pirates, recently relocated to Hershey, Pa., says it has reached a deal with the Ducks, now playing in the AHL's Calder Cup playoffs.
The Ducks beat Milwaukee 3-1 in Game 5 of their series Wednesday night.
"We have a club for next year. We just haven't announced it," Pirates managing owner and general manager Brian Petrovek said.
He said the announcement won't come until the team is out of the playoffs. Of the 16 teams in the playoffs, seven contacted by The Enquirer Wednesday said they aren't going to Maine. At least four others have contracts with their parent clubs. The other teams didn't return calls.
The Mighty Ducks' affiliation with the National Hockey League's Anaheim franchise will end after this season.
Cincinnati Ducks CEO and president Pete Robinson said that although the two teams have renegotiated deals in the past, the Walt Disney Co.'s pending sale of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks could change things.
"That could hurt getting the deal done," he said. "...There are a lot of things over our head."
Anaheim Mighty Ducks general manager Al Coates did not comment when asked specifically whether the AHL Mighty Ducks are going to Maine.
"All we've said to the ownership (in Cincinnati) is that we're going to explore all options," Coates said.
Robinson added that Anaheim has advised the Ducks also to look for other affiliations.
Helbig said that if the Ducks left, the owners would want to attract another AHL team to the city.
"The Robinson family owns the AHL franchise in Cincinnati, and regardless of what decision Anaheim might make, (the Robinsons) are committed to preserving the American Hockey League for Cincinnati," Helbig said.
The 2004-05 season was the Ducks' eighth in Cincinnati and in Cincinnati Gardens. The minor-league Cyclones halted operations after last season.

A few other pieces to the puzzle I have heard. One,it was said the
Blue Jackets current AHL affiliate runs out in 2006,so they could pull
a Cyclones and shut down for a year and then crank it up with a move of
the Columbus AHL team for 2006-2007. Second, a few weeks ago I heard
that Hamilton County settled the Cyclones lawsuit from back with the
stadium construction mess and what it did for our patrons,so current
management might have capital and no competition to crank up the ECHL
(ECHL site says we still have the rights and can lay off this year
again) team again. Third, maybe Robinson makes a deal for the ECHL
rights and brings the Cyclones back to the Gardens.
Like my previous topic, tonight we are heading down to the arena
football game and I will have my Cyclones colors on. Maybe some good
attendance numbers for them can open our door back up. |

Per the interview on Channel 5 Sunday night, there are no plans to bring in an ECHL team just for a year. The Gardens want AHL or nothing.
I'm all for letting the Cyclones and the Ducks take their places in Cincinnati Hockey History. Let's focus energy on creating a new team and just let the old ones die. |

Wow, I can't believe anybody posts on this board anymore. I made it to 1 Ducks game.I wanted to make it to the playoffs but wasn't able to. Looks like the the best hockey next year will be CAHA. They've added AAA teams this year. Don't forget the Cobra's!

hope the end is not here for cincy hockey,but the clones owners made their million's with the lawsuit and the other team lasted longer.
so would a new team be a new start.
what i will miss most of all is the road trip's to support our team and the people who are now friend's because of Doug the real CYCLONE.
