 Ehgoetz Nets Series Winning Goal For Cyclones!

CHARLESTON, South Carolina - .Cincinnati Cyclones center Barret Ehgoetz collected a puck at the top of the goal crease 16:15 into overtime and netted his second goal of the night to give the club a 3-2 win over the defending Kelly Cup champion South Carolina Stingrays. With the winthe club knocks out the Stingrays and advances to the American Conference Semifinal round. It was a three games to two series triumph.

It was the third straight night the teams went to overtime and the second time that the Cyclones came away victorious.

With the victory, the Cyclones advance to the American Conference Semifinals. The Charlotte Checkers, the American Conference regular season champions, will provide the opposition in the best of seven round, which will begin at Charlotte on Friday night (April 16) at 7pm. The first game of the series at U.S. Bank Arena will be game three and that will be played on Wednesday, April 21 at 7:30pm. A press release detailing the next round will follow shortly.

The Cyclones opened the scoring 2:46 into the first period when Barret Ehgoetz notched his third goal of the postseason on the right wing side from Josh Heidinger and Mathieu Aubin. South Carolina would level the scores at one each when Keith Johnson fired home his second tally of the playoffs at 7:08 from Trent Campbell and Gregg Johnson. Cincinnati had a chance to grab the lead later in the period, but a 1:23 stretch with a five-on-three power play went unrewarded. The shots favored Cincinnati, 14-10, in the period.

The Stingrays scored the only goal of the period with a shot from the point from defenseman Derek Kellerhis first of the postseason. Jeff Caister and Matt Scherer had the assists on the go-ahead goal. The shots were even in the period at seven each. South Carolina had a pair of power play chances in the frame, but was unable to convert either.

With time running out in the third period, Jimmy Kilpatrick grabbed a puck at the bottom of the right circle and ripped a hot just under the crossbar past Todd Ford to tie the game at three each. Kilpatrick's fourth goal of the postseason came at 14:28 and Dustin Sproat and Matt Pierce had the assists. The shots again favored the Cyclones, 9-8, in the stanza.

In the overtime, South Carolina had a five-on-three chance for 39 seconds and three power play opportunitiesbut Jeremy Smith and the Cincinnati penalty killers eliminated the chances. The shots in the overtime favored Cincinnati, 9-8, and for the game the Cyclones won the shots battle, 38-34. After Doug Krantz was boarded by Matt Scherer in overtimethe table was set for Ehgoetz' power play heroics. The game ending goal came from Mathieu Aubin and Kilpatrick. The shots in overtime went South Carolina's way, 9-8. Cincinnati had the upper hand in shots for the game at 38-34.

Jeremy Smith collected the victory, stopping 32 shots. Todd Ford suffered the loss, turning away 35 shots. Cincinnati was one-for-six on the power play on the night and one-for-nineteen in the season series in Charleston between the regular season and playoffsafter the Ehgoetz goal. South Carolina was zero-for-five with the man-advantage.

South Carolina, which posted a 41-19-12 regular season recordtied for the South Division and American Conference titles, is meeting the Cyclones (44-25-3second in the North Division) in the Kelly Cup playoffs for the third straight year. In 2008, Cincinnati knocked off the Stingrays in a five-game conference championship series en route to taking the Kelly Cup. Last year, the Stingrays swept the Cyclones in the conference finals to capture their third league title. South Carolina was the fourth-seeded team, while Cincinnati was the fifth-seed.

The next game of the Cincinnati Cyclones USA Collision Centers postseason will be the first game of this best of seven series, played at Charlotte on Friday night (April 16) at 7pm. The game will be carried on the internet at www.cycloneshockey.com and broadcast on ESPN 1530.

Tickets for the 2010-11 Cincinnati Cyclones season are now on sale. A special open house on Tuesday, April 13 from 4-8pm will allow fans a chance to see the facility up close and even skate on the ice.
