Cyclones To Battle Charlotte In Conference Semifinals!
Cyclones Knock Off South Carolina, Get Conference Champion sIn Best of Seven Affair
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones (44-25-3) of the ECHL will take on the Charlotte Checkers (43-21-8) in the American Conference Semifinals, beginning Friday night (April 16) at the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte. The series is a best-of-seven that will feature a two-three-two format. The Cyclones are the ECHL affiliate for the Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators of the NHL.
The first two games will be played in North Carolina on Friday (April 16) and Saturday (April 17) at 7pm each night. ESPN 1530 and the club's website: www.cycloneshockey.com will carry these games. The series will move to U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday, April 21 for the third game and on Friday, April 23 for the fourth games. Faceoff each night will be at 7:30pm. If a fifth game is needed, it would also be played in Cincinnati on Saturday, April 24 at 7:30pm. If games six and/or seven are needed, they would be played at the Time Warner Cable Arena on Monday, April 26 and Tuesday, April 27. Those games would also be carried on ESPN 1530 at 7pm.
The Cyclones secured the berth in the American Conference Semifinals after defeating South Carolina in five games tonight, highlighted by a x-x victory in the decisive fifth game. Charlotte, the American Conference regular season champion, knocked off eighth-seeded Toledo in four games to advance. The Checkers took the fourth game earlier this afternoon, 5-4, in overtime.
This will be the first time that the Cyclones and Charlotte have met in the Kelly Cup playoffs. This season, Cincinnati posted a 2-1 record against the Checkers. It is the fourth straight season under Head Coach Chuck Weber that the club has entered the second round of playoffs in the American Conference.
For fans holding tickets to all playoff games, Game C is for Game Three on Wednesday, April 21. The Game D ticket is for the game on Friday, April 23. If Game Five is needed, Game E would be the ticket needed for Saturday, April 24. Tickets not used in this round will serve as the first tickets needed for future games.
The promotions for the games at U.S. Bank Arena will feature a Wet Wednesday promotion for the April 21 game with one dollar Miller High Life and Pabst Blue Ribbon beers through the evening. The Friday, April 23 contest will have one dollar John Morrell hot dogs for fans to enjoy and if the Saturday, April 24 contest is neededthere will be one dollar Donatos pizza slices on sale.
