This whole merger has me intrigued and it is reading like a soap opera. There is a potential power struggle looming between the owners of the IHL Fort Wayne Komets and the CHL Colorado Eagles. The Fort Wayne fans are a little uneasy and for good reason because they want to know how this is going to look for them and the CHL/IHL has not been releasing any new information on the merger itself.
And then there is people like Rajan who like the stir the pot from time to time. Here is his post about comments made in regards to the hockey history in Muskegon:

If all of you are getting tired of my rubbernecking, please tell me to stop. It's just interesting to me how this will all play out. I feel for the Fort Wayne fans - they love their team and we have all been there.

It does seem you are dead on about Fort Wayne loving their team. This to me seems the puzzle why Fort Wayne would not join either the AHL or the ECHL as a strong stable league. And yes, two reasons come to mind-Fort Wayne owners egos and more egos !!! |

| It appears that there weren't any talks with the AHL or ECHL as far as the Komets go. It seems that the fans just want more variety in the teams they play and not the same 5 or 6. From the way it looks, I don't think they are going to see that in the CHL. And it seemed like a lot were turned off by having an NHL affiliate because they want to keep their veterans and not see new players coming in and out. Like you said bags, I think it just comes down to the egos of the owners. |

Here's an interesting twist:
http://www.oursportscentral.com/services/releases/?id=4039068 ---------------------------------------------------- The Dayton Gems Ownership Group announced today that the Gems Press Conference that was scheduled in the lobby at Hara Arena at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 to announce the hiring of the new Head Coach for the upcoming 2010-11 season has been postponed. The reason for the postponement is due to unforeseen circumstances. A rescheduled date has not been announced as of this time. ---------------------------------------------------
At best, the apparent new coach backed out or the Gems had second thoughts.
At worst.........who knows? Are the Gems finished?
This "merger/absorbtion" is getting more messy by the minute.

| The individual that accepted the Gems offer has chosen to pursue another opportunity. And who's to blame them with it being June 30 and the Gems still uncertain whether they're part of the CHL/IHL merger, just in the IHL, or scrambling to find a league to play in for the 2010-11 season. |

I'm sure that had a lot to do with it. Going into a team that did not have a great season last year coupled with being unsure what the play is going to be last night was probably enough for them. In Dayton's defense, I'm sure they thought they would have some definites by now.
It appears that they feed information in little bits at a time. They finally know how many games they are going to play next year:

It almost reads like the IHL teams are getting screwed on the deal. |

I wonder if it wasn't Stork who ditched Dayton for Greenville?
Whoever Dayton had line up obviously hadn't signed a contract prior to the press conference or else they wouldn't have had the option to back out. Assuming no escape clause.

| Dayton did offer the job to Dean but he declined (for lack of a better word). Money was a BIG issue. |
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Why in the world would Rick Vaive, the first coach to win the Brabham & Kelly Cup in the same season (SC 96-97), have any interest in an IHL job????
If he wanted to get back into coaching, one would have thought Elmira, Florida, or Greenville would have been much better options.... |

My insider sources (I'm very well connected, you know ) tell me that it was Stan Drulia who stiffed the Gems. Stork is innocent. My apologies for my errant speculation.
Drulia landed the Wheeling/Johnstown Chief/Nailer job.

It looks like there has been some progress. The divisions have been created.

| Maybe Vaive was considering it since his son's playing at Miami, it would have put him close by. The Gems website (I keep wanting to say Bombers) has something about a Meet the Coach party they had w/Gratz. Looks on their website like the CHL/IHL is a done deal. |
