At this point I wouldn't blame Weber for taking another ECHL job with different NHL ties. What more could be asked of a coach over a three year span-two titles and a semi lost. If this doesn't make a case for an AHL job then nothing will. |

He's still in the running for the Rochester job.
Who knows? He may take an assistant AHL job for next season.
Has Weber been showing up at these "Concrete Clones" deals? |

The ECHL team makes very little difference. All of the AHL/NHL teams know of him and his record and are able to make him an offer if they choose to. He has no contractual limitations due to Clones affiliations. |

Don't discount that Chuck is being picky about the opportunities presented to him. None of us really know what is going on.
It could very well be a case of "If I can't get what I want, I'll just stay here."
To me, Stork leaving slightly indicates that the Head Coaching job here might not have been available to him. That *could* be because Chuck told him he'd potentially be staying.
Who knows.

According to Rochester paper, Cunneyworth was a candidate for Americans job where he had coached successfully before, but took Hamilton job as Florida not ready yet to hire the Americans coach. My concern now is that it is awful late in the off season and if Chuck leaves the pool for a new coach is fairly small. Also have not seen any news releases about Cyclone player signings and perhaps some of the non affiliated players are waiting to see who the coach is before they decide where to sign. |

Even if players are signing the organization has a history of not announce them until later in the summer, usually late August or September. It is what it is. Deal with it.
I'm right with you on what it could mean for the Team if Chuck moves on. You are right on about the pool of coaches being quite thin at this point. At the minor league levels guys don't wait around on job thinking "hey if the Cincy job doesn't open I can always coach in the SPHL again." They jump on any opportunity to jump up and at this point that doesn't leave us with much. Steve Martinson is still out there but let's hope the front office knows not to go there.
The other thing is, Chuck gives the players he signs an out clause in their contracts so that should he move on the players have the option of either staying for the new coach or moving on. If Chuck moves on it will mean the coaching staff will be 100% new and that could cause many players to balk leaving the Organization scrambling for players.
One other thing to keep in mind, Chuck is under a multi-year deal with the Cyclones and as such you won't see it announced that he is coming back. At this point, no news is good news.

Elvis, you are more up on this than I am, but I was under the impression Chuck just signed a two year contract two years ago and is not under one now. Please correct me if I'm wrong. |
...And on the eighth day, GOD created the Cyclones! |

To hrc666-I think there's only been 1 Concrete Clones as of yet. Chuck wasn't at that one; Dean, Dustin, & Scott were there. I'm not sure who will show up at the next one which is this Saturday, 7/24, at the Florence Meijer. |
Hockey is life. All the rest is just small stuff.

It's listed as a multi-year deal. There is no further info on exactly how many years.

My guess is that it rolls over each season, of course Chuck has an opt out to advance his career.

Norfolk makes a lot of sense for Chuck. He has ties with BriseBois. |

Very good point. With Chuck's connections in Rochester with Santos (asst. GM with Florida previously with Nashville/Milwaukee) and the Brisebois connection in Norfolk, I like his chances of landing either of these two positions.
French isn't a problem in Norfolk. Yankee english is, however

The Norfolk/Tampa situation would seem to suit Chuck to a "T".
With Yzerman, Boucher and Brisbois, the Lightning have assembled a management team which is well-accomplished, innovative and young.
I'd think that if Weber had a very good working relationship with Boucher and Brisbois then it would seem like he would be a "no brainer" for coach of Norfolk. The only possible negative would be that Boucher's relative lack of experience could make him subject to a brutal learning curve and that if he isn't up to the task, then the Lightning might want a more seasoned coach on the farm should Boucher fail.
As dbc said, the pieces really do seem like they're coming together for Weber in the Tampa organization. I hope this job materializes for him. |
