Good for him. A promotion and a trip home. Couldn't be happier for Chuck and his family.
However--out of sight out of mind. The question now becomes what do the Cyclones do? Both coaches gone. Any ideas of who they are talking to or suggestions as to who they might want to consider? |

Congrats to Chuck. he truly earned a promotion based on his performance the past few years. I'm even happier for him that he is essentially returning home. The only bummer is the timing prevented Stork from taking over the reigns here.
Good luck Chuck and I hope to see you as a bench boss in the NHL someday. |
Never argue with an idiot. He'll drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience

An absolute bummer that Chuck had to go... but he is absolutely worthy of this promotion and I hope Rochester goes far with him... maybe he can help them relieve us of the evil empire of the AHL known as the Hershey Bears!
And it gives us a chance to give a worthy coach a golden chance at a head coaching spot. I hope we are smart about who we hire! Any ideas on who we should get to coach us?
So long, Chuck, and we thank you! In Chuck We WILL FOREVER Trust! |

Absolutely outstanding!!!!!
Richly deserved and two years overdue.
Even though Weber is the consummate pro, I don't think that we would have wanted him back this season. His resume and skill set is far superior to many coaches who have been given chances in the AHL ahead of him. At some point, even the most positive personality becomes a bit jaded when earned opportunities don't materialize. I'm not saying that Chuck would have 'tanked' in his job, but I think that it's reasonable to say that he wouldn't have been overjoyed being here again after winning two Kelly Cups in three years.
Best of Luck to Weber. Perhaps a Dan Bylsma situtation (AHL to NHL in a short span) may develop for him within the Florida organization. The Panthers aren't very good which makes their coach vulnerable. In any case, at least one NHL organization has proved itself to not be completely brain dead by hiring the best coach available.
I am looking forward to the press conference today. I hope that it's Steve Martinson. I would love to see a more physcial team as they're fun to watch and great for attendance.

I personally hope it's not Martinson - got used to good HOCKEY the past couple years...but I'm sure all the goon-atics will have multiple big Os if he is named... |

I hate to see him go but it is well deserved. Best of luck to him and may we see him in the NHL soon.
I saw on Facebook that the Cyclones are making an announcement at 3:00. With the announcement on Chuck already made public, I wonder if they will announce the new coach? Can we do a take back on Stork? |

Also disagree on Martinson. Got use to watching smart play from Chuck and his teams and not goon play from a coach and players crying the whole game like Martinson and Elmira. He had a winning record there but was still fired. His approach to the game is outdated. The idea is to lead the league in points and not penalty minutes or misconducts. |

Good for Chuck. Perhaps Dwayne Zinger was brought in last year for a reason. I'd also agree with others that we have seen some pretty good hockey here and Martinson would certainly take that down several notches. |

that would be my guess,Zinger, why would they keep him around after he was hurt last year? He has a good eye for talent but can he coach(if it is him)? |

Chuck Weber named Head Coach in Rochester
Date: 07/27/2010
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The Cincinnati Cyclones learned today that Chuck Weber has been announced as Head Coach of the Rochester Americans, the AHL affiliate of the Florida Panthers. Weber spent four seasons behind the Cincinnati bench, from 2006-07 through 2009-10.
Weber, 37, directed the Cyclones to a 177-92-19 record (.648 winning percentage) during his four seasons at the helm. Under his leadership, Cincinnati won two Kelly Cup championships (2008 and 2010), two North Division titles (2008 and 2009), a Brabham Cup (league's best record) and earned three consecutive trips to the American Conference Finals (2008, 2009 and 2010). Additionally, Weber received the 2008 John Brophy Award (ECHL's Coach of the Year), and was runner up for the honor in 2007.
"Having an opportunity to be the head coach in the American Hockey League is something I look forward to," Weber said. "The challenge of working with these players and preparing them for the National Hockey League will be welcomed."
Weber's 177 wins are the third-most by an ECHL coach in his first four full seasons (Dave Farrish 186 wins, and Jason Christie 179 wins are the others in front of him). He also has the third-most playoff victories in ECHL history with 45, trailing only John Brophy (55 in ten seasons), and St. Louis Blues coach Davis Payne (50 in seven seasons). Weber's 45 wins are the most by any ECHL coach in a five-year time frame (and he has completed it in just four).
"Cincinnati holds a special place for me," Weber said. "This was my first head coaching opportunity. It is hard to leave because it is such a good place. I joked about the fact that when I arrived I had been in five cities in the past seven years. These four seasons have been incredible for me. I won't forget them."
Among Weber's accomplishments in his four seasons was securing an affiliation agreement with the NHL's Montreal Canadiens (for all four seasons) and adding the Nashville Predators to the fold in 2007. A total of 67 players were called up during his tenure.
"Simple thanks are not enough for the Cyclones organization," Weber added. "Ray Harris gave me the opportunity to be a head coach and I am thankful for that. Kristin Ropp and Joe Wallach have done wonderful things with the organization and have been incredibly supportive of myself and the team. They have all given us what we have needed to be successful."
Weber was named as the Head Coach of the Cincinnati Cyclones in May 2006, bringing a track record of success with him. Chuck previously served as an assistant coach for seven seasons being a part of one championship (Orlando 2001).
In Weber's eleven-year coaching career, his teams have made it to the postseason nine times. In six of those nine playoff campaigns his teams have either won the championship (2001 Orlando and 2008 and 2010 Cincinnati) or been eliminated from competition by the eventual champion (2003 Milwaukee, 2006 Utah and 2009 South Carolina).
"We're very happy for Chuck Weber to have this opportunity," Cyclones President Ray Harris said. "He has worked very hard to set the bar of excellence here as high as it is."
The defending Kelly Cup Champion Cyclones open their home schedule on Saturday, October 30 at U.S. Bank Arena against the Wheeling Nailers. Ticket packages for the 2010-2011 season are available now. For more information, call 513.421.PUCK (7825) extension 3 or visit CyclonesHockey.com.

whoever becomes the new coach, i hope he has experience... were too high-caliber now to just bring someone in fresh into coaching. sorry, but dwayne zinger is not a good fit RIGHT NOW. number one he is a player probably on the brink of retirement, who knows... secondly, I personally would prefer someone with head coaching experience anyway. Zinger could make a good head man one day. But for now I think can make a good, reliable assistant... Cincinnati is a great place for someone to learn how to be a good head coach, just ask Chris Cichocki (former Cyclones assistant AND head coach... not exactly the best records, but I can tell he is a good teacher of the game as evidenced by his work with Arkansas and Stockton... I think the Cyclones as we were before our hiatus was just an unlucky break)... I think we can also benefit from the very talented pool of assistant coaches in ECHL.
Time will tell, i guess... |

I am really glad for Coach Weber. He sure has paid his dues and earned this promotion.
The hard reality is the team is now behind the eight ball. Here it is almost August and we have no head coach, nor an assistant coach. You have to think that anyone who would be a prime candidate has already been plucked. We could be looking at an interim head coach before the season even kicks off. That can also greatly hurt the chances of signing quality players. This also could put us in limbo with one or both of our affiliates.
I'm not a "Glass is half empty" kinda guy, but we may just be looking at a rebuilding year of our own. |
...And on the eighth day, GOD created the Cyclones! |

Think maybe they'll consider Don Biggs? He's coaching the Queen City Steam Jr A team now. |

I have to disagree. Chuck had NO head coaching experience but he was a winner. Lets face it, the team is going to be 80-90% new next year, like it is every year. (Maybe a few guys from last year, Hopefully Barret!) Having someone with the winning vision (not to be confused with a winning record, necessarily) will come to the fore front and pick up the pieces and put them back in order. I think Zinger, with a strong offensive minded assistant (Eggo?!?) could pull that off.
Hopefully we will be as competitive as we have been but lets remember how blessed we have been with Chuck. The new staff may not have the instant success that Chuck (and Dean, lets be fair) had so i'm willing to cut a little slack from the get- go.
As far as digging up previous Cyclones coaches, lets move on and look for new blood instead of a retread. I wasn't here for any of them but they didn't do a whole lot while they were here or they would still be here or at a higher level. |
