At what point do the Clones start signing players? Is this typical for them not to sign until late or has the coaching situation caused some delay? I've read where the other temas in the league have signed quite a bit more than the Clones.
I know I'm propbably being impatient, but we're just a couple of days from September. |

I was looking at who other teams have signed and none of our players have signed with other ECHL teams. And I did see at least 1 team that has not signed a single player, or they just have not announced it. |

Even though there haven't been many players announced, the Cyclones likely still have plenty of guys under contract.
Trenton never announces player signings until camp opens. |

Am also concerned at the lack of announced player signings. There is no need not to announce signings. The ECHL does not have multi year player contracts so there are no players signed from last year automatically. The affiliates will have players under multi year deals but who gets sent here at the end of the AHL camps is up to them.
Cyclones had 8 qualified offers tendered and none were signed by Aug 1 deadline. Barrett was not tendered an offer as they knew he lived here Each team was entitled to reserve the rights to a maximum of eight qualified players. Of the eight qualified players, no more than four could be veterans (260 regular season professional hockey games played as of the start of the upcoming 2010-11 season). Players on open qualifying offers cannot be traded. The eight Cyclone players from last year were Jamie Coghlan, Brett Robinson, Matt Pierce, Kevin Roeder, Chris Morehouse, Brock Sheahan,Brian OHanley, and Brett Motherwell.
The qualifying offer must remain open for acceptance until Aug. 1 at which time the qualifying offer becomes null and void and the team may sign the qualified player to any salary or may elect to take no further action. Teams that extend a valid qualifying offer to a non-veteran player shall retain the rights to that qualified player for one playing season.
A team that extends a valid qualifying offer to a veteran player will retain the rights to that veteran until Aug. 1. After Aug. 1, if the veteran player is not signed to a contract by the team, the veteran shall be deemed a restricted free agent and shall be entitled to seek and secure offers of employment from other ECHL teams. Restricted free agents may not be traded. When a restricted free agent receives a contract offer from a team other than the team with the players rights and the restricted free agent wishes to accept the contract offer, the restricted free agent and the offering member must, within 24 hours, notify the ECHL, the team with the players rights and the Professional Hockey Players Association. The member with the players rights shall have seven days after the date it is notified to exercise its right to match the contract offer. Only one of the eight, Brock Sheahan, signed as a restricted free agent.
If a restricted free agent is not signed to either an offer sheet or a contract by an ECHL team by Aug. 31, the player shall be deemed an unrestricted free agent. Thus tomorrow is the final day for the remaining seven players as restricted free agents and they become unrestricted free agents able to sign with anyone without the Cyclones being able to match the offer.
About one month to camp and three players announced.

Again, the organization has a history of not announcing player signings too far out before the season.
We found out about Barret 2 weeks ago. Sheahan and Bartholomay were announced last week. It wouldn't surprise me if we get another bit of news this week. |

Rochester/Florida and Milwaukee/Nashville will be supplying the Cyclones with an undetermined amount of players-many of whom have already been signed.
Anyway, opening day ECHL rosters usually bear little similarity to April rosters. Player personnel turns over so much that "what you see is what you get" doesn't really mean much in August.
