We are now three weeks from the beginning of camp and there are six people signed. The three defensemen are all returning as is Barrett. The last announcement was for Higgins who had 15 points in 104 college games as a center at Vermont. I know the response of some has been that the Cyclones always delay such announcements, but if they do have some contracts in their pocket I wish they would announce them now. ECHL website is full daily of signing of veterans and returnees from around the league and I don't know what advantage the team might see in not making such announcements. I have been concerned and posted previously that the late change of coaches might put us at a disadvantage attracting and signing players. Hope not but would love to see proof that it hasn't by the quick announcements of some signings of more experienced players. I know we need to wait to see who gets sent down by Rochester and Milwaukee but that won't happen until right before the regular season starts at best. |

No need to panic. I'm sure the team has a few contracts signed that they haven't announced. Signed contracts mean very little going into training camp as those players still may be cut/traded/released. I remember talking to both Felix Petit and Jason Woll at a preseason event last year and talking about how much they were looking forward to the regular season. Both guys got released prior to the first game and had logged time with the team the previous year.
Rookie camps have opened all across the NHL. Players are hoping to stick there. Failing the NHL camp brings you to the AHL camp then after that we get a shot at them. Players who are on open NHL tryouts are not going to sign with an AHL or ECHL team until they absolutely have to.
The team also has to look at how many spots are available for affiliated players. There is no sense in signing a bunch of players that can make the team but will be released or sat when our assigned players come down.
The Cyclones will put a team on the ice this year and I imagine they will be pretty good based on the players we have already. Just wait a few weeks. |

Not in a panic. Just concerned and a bit confused at this point. Agree with most of what you say as to camps, affiliates etc., but if the team has more contracts signed why not announce them?? Everyone else has. Look for example at the web sites for SC, Wheeling, and Idaho and see how many players they have announced and signed.
If you "are sure" they have other players signed, then please tell us more specifics. I am not trying to bash management or the coaches but the pure fact is we got a late start due to the coaching changes. There are less players looking for ECHL contracts now then there were a month ago and the overall quality of those still looking is less than those who have signed.

i guess a good way to look at it is, how many players from last year team has signed with other teams (not players from the ahl, example being mc kenzie). lets see three went over seas and 1, hans , went to the chl.
i do know that the organization will not release signings until the league has approved the contracts and this can take some time.

Where do Goaltenders fit in? Are they signed like any other player, or is there some other way they get in. Is Mayer and Smith back, or do the Clones have to find others? |

Mayer will likely not be back as the Hamilton/Montreal affiliation no longer exists.
Since the Cyclones still have an affiliation with Milwaukee/Nashville, then Smith could be back. I'd hope that his performance last season earned him an AHL roster spot this year, but one never knows. |

His performance would easily earn him a spot in the AHL, but Milwaukee is so stacked with goaltender depth, he might be sent back. Which is great for us, unfortunate for him. Unless Nashville makes some moves, I would guess its pretty good chance for him to be back. |

Nashville has Rinne as # 1 to be backed up by either Dekanich or Pickard who were both in Milwaukee last year. The other will return there leaving #2 battle between Jeremy and Anders Limback. Limback is Swedish rookie and played there last year making him I believe the most likely candidate to head down here to get accustomed to the North American game.
Rochester has three goalies on the roster. Plante and Beckford-Tseu are veterans and Alexander Salek is a Finnish rookie and probably the most likely to be sent down to Cincinnati.
Also noticed Greenville traded for Dov Grumet Morris from Utah. Dov had played the last two years in Europe. Dean also traded for Volkes. |

With two affiliates we can reasonably always assume our goalies will be from them.
Has anyone got Scott Reynold's email? If he really has been released overseas we can all tell him how much we'd love to have him back here. :)

Salak got sent over to play for Frjestads of the SEL, so he wont be here. I would guess Dex before Pickard to get sent up to nashville. Alot more experience/reps. Chet should be #1 in Milwaukee this year, and they signed Anders b/c they expect him to be in the AHL this year. Chet and Anders were the ones playing in the rookie game against the panthers rookies last night too.
As for Florida/Rochester, I have no idea. Hockeysfuture projects Marc Cheverie and Brian Foster as possibilities due to the stockpile they have in net as well, but wont shake out until camp is over.
A serious long shot would be Sergei Gayduchenko, 21 year old russian goalie. He is 6'5, i think he might be under contract in the KHL, but im not certain, but im guessing if the Panthers told him hes coming to play in north america he would listen.
And yes, I would love to have Reynolds back here, if the press release I saw was translated correctly. |

Aubin would be pretty good to have back. It gives them a little more grit and some power play strength. |
