Trio of Kelly Cup Champion Cyclones Returning for 2010-11
Date: 09/27/2010
CINCINNATI, Ohio - The 2010 Kelly Cup Champion Cincinnati Cyclones, proud affiliate of the NHL's Florida Panthers and Nashville Predators, announced today that they have agreed to terms with forwards Scott Reynolds, Matt Pierce, and Ryan Del Monte for the 2010-11 season. Both Pierce and Del Monte have also been invited to AHL training camp in Rochester.
Reynolds, a fifth-year pro, returns to Cincinnati for his fourth tour of duty, etching his name on the Kelly Cup twice during that stretch. The 6-foot-1 forward has spent all but one season of his professional career with the Cyclones, making his mark in the franchise record books in the process. Reynolds ranks fifth in career points (117), third in games played (209), and third in career plus/minus (+44).
In 2009-10, the Kerrobert, Saskatchewan native finished third on the Cyclones with 56 points (23 goals, 33 assists) in 70 games. On November 13, 2009, Reynolds notched his 100th professional point in a 4-3 loss to Kalamazoo. He was a regular contributor to the score sheet last season, logging 13 multiple-point games - third most on the team.
"Scott's veteran presence in the room will be great for us," said Cyclones Head Coach Jarrod Skalde. "He's very familiar with this organization and has had a great deal of success. I couldn't be happier to have him with us again."
Pierce, an Arnprior, Ontario native, returns for his second full season with the Cyclones after notching 50 points (28 goals, 22 assists) in 60 games last year. He experienced especially good success in January, netting nine goals during that month - which ranked fifth best in the ECHL.
The 25-year-old was one of two Cyclones players named to the 2010 ECHL All-Star Game (Jeremy Smith was the other). During the contest, Pierce had a team-high three assists for the American Conference which went on to win 10-9 in a shootout.
"Matt has a tremendous future ahead of him," said Skalde. "He is a great competitor who had a great season last year. I know he'll do very well in Rochester's camp and I really look forward to seeing him improve on his numbers from a year ago."
In his college days, Pierce was an integral part of the Mercyhurst College offense. He ranked in the top four in team scoring during each of his final three seasons. His senior year, Pierce finished fourth in Atlantic Hockey scoring (50 points) and won Player of the Month accolades twice.
Del Monte, a native of Mississauga, Ontario, joined the 2009-10 Cyclones in mid-November after being traded from Johnstown in exchange for Bryan Marshall. In 46 games with the Kelly Cup Champs, Del Monte amassed 27 points (9 goals, 18 assists) and 42 penalty-minutes (PIM). In the postseason, the third-year pro continued to rack up time in the "sin-bin," getting whistled for 41 PIM in just 21 games. Before joining the professional ranks, Del Monte played four seasons at Brock University, finishing sixteenth in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (Canada's version of the NCAA) with 34 points during his senior year.
"Del Monte is a guy who I think is ready for a breakout season," said Skalde. "He had a great playoff run, and can do a lot of different things on the ice."
The defending Kelly Cup Champion Cyclones open their home schedule on Saturday, October 30 at U.S. Bank Arena against the Wheeling Nailers. Discounted ticket packages for the 2010-11 season are available now. For more information, call 513.421.PUCK (7825) or visit CyclonesHockey.com.

The Stingrays announced the signing of Maxime Lacroix today. I was pretty surprised the Clones didn't protect his rights.... but we'll certainly take him. Maybe the kid can make it 3 Kelly Cups in a row. lol |

Very nice. Just knowing we have the Eggo/Reyolds penalty kill back again will help me sleep better. :)
Any ideas about who is shaping up to be our goalies on opening day?

Not that I'm complaining, but didn't someone post that Scott Reynolds signed in Europe? |

He was released from his contract from the croatian team a couple weeks ago. No reason why, maybe he realized he didnt want to be overseas again and wanted to come back here. |

Trio of Kelly Cup Champion Cyclones Returning for 2010-11 -------------------------------------------------------- GREAT NEWS!
Has anybody heard anything about Mat Aubin? I watch the ECHL website for transactions, and haven't seen him mentioned in any way. I'd love to have him back in a Cyclones uniform for a full season to show what he can really do! |

Rochester has three goalies in camp: Tyler Plante, Chris Beckford-Tseu, and Alexander Salak. Milwaukee has Jeremy Smith and Bobby Jarosz with another 1-2 to come down from Nashville.

Amerks only have Mark Cheverie and Brian Foster in the way of goalies according to their camp list.

Salak is playing over in europe this season.
Clemmenson, Plante, Vokoun, Markstrom have all played for Florida this preseason. |

Your right about Salak. I missed the announcement. Thanks
Looks then like it will be the odd man out between Markstrom, Plante, and Cheverie. Plante got sent down yesterday and Markstrom is scheduled to be after the next FL game. My guess is Cheverie will be here to start the season. Markstrom is their top prospect and should be #1 for Amerks Plante is a solid #2 who has played AHL/ECHL in the past few years. Cheverie is in his first pro season after strong year at U of Denver and I doubt they would want him to sit in Rochester. He and Plante could switch for a while during the year.
Will be interesting to see what happens with Milwaukee. Smith or Linback will back up the loser of the Pickard/Dekanich battle for Nashville's #2. Linback is more touted as he was the #3 goalie for Sweden in the World Championships but this is his first season in North America and they might want him to start in ECHL to get him acclimated.
My guess is Cheverie and either Smith or Linback. Either combo seems like a solid duo.

Ive heard the only reason they signed Linback this year was because they expected him to play in the AHL, but who knows. I would love to have Jeremy back here. Either way, should be pretty solid with depth. |

In a surprise move, Goalie Mark Dekanich will be back in Milwaukee to start the season. Nashville assigned him to Milwaukee today after Anders Lindback won the backup job to Pekka Rinne. With Dekanich and Pickard now with the Admirals, looks like Jeremy Smith will be back here |

The organization seems pretty loaded with goaltenders, which is good news for us.
