A couple local kids will be making their Division I NCAA hockey debuts this weekend - there haven't been many local kids who have made it to this level, but the good news is that there are more local kids poised to start at Miami U next season. No coincidence that this generation of local kids were able to grow up with Cyclones hockey which, at least in my mind, played a role in thier developing their love and desire to play the game.

Chris Crane - who played locally for the Dayton Gems, CAHA, and NKYHA - and Ohio State Buckeyes travel east to play Quinnipiac.

CJ Groh - who played locally for NKYHA - and the Alabama-Huntsville Chargers host Ferris State (CCHA).

It's great to see how far the local hockey playing scene has progressed since I participated.

No one when I played even got a look (as far as I know) from any college hockey program at any level.

Former Cyclones Jason Deitch started playing hockey at Northland, but even he wasn't able to land a spot on a Div I NCAA team.

Perhaps one day a legitimate Cincinnati born player (not one who was born here but grew up elsewhere ala Curt Fraser) will make it to the NHL.
