Rochester Americans President Lewis Staats announced Thursday that the club will not extend its current affiliation agreement with the National Hockey League's Florida Panthers beyond the 2010-11 season. Rochester is currently in its third year of the agreement, which expires at the end of this season.
"When we negotiated this agreement with Florida, it was agreed we would put a 're-negotiation date' in it to ensure that both organizations had time to either investigate extending the terms of the agreement or provided sufficient time to explore other options," said Staats. "November 1, 2010 was the agreed upon date, and as of today, Rochester has informed Dale Tallon, General Manager of the Florida Panthers, that we would not be renewing/extending the existing affiliation with Florida. We will explore all the options that are available to us in terms of an NHL parent club going forward at the conclusion of the 2010-11 season when our existing agreement with Florida expires. We are continuing to build and improve the Amerks from a business perspective and will be very diligent in our search for an NHL partner who we believe will help us achieve our goals both on and off the ice."
The Amerks and Panthers say they will continue to work closely over the next seven or eight months to make this current season as successful as possible for both of their on-ice products and for their respective business organizations.
Staats confirmed that the Columbus Blue Jackets, Phoenix Coyotes and Colorado Avalanche are the three NHL clubs who are currently available for an affiliation for 2011-12. The Amerks plan to speak with each club in the coming days and weeks.

Well, we can already anticipate one change looking ahead to the '11-'12 season. |

This has the potential to put Weber in a bind as he is an employee of the Panther's choosing.
From what I read on message boards, fans in Rochester seem to like or are neutral toward Chuck. The vast majority were/are unhappy with Florida.
Chuck was only signed to a one year deal, so essentially he has a year to audition for the Amerk job with its new affiliate or for another organization. I'd be surprised if he didn't fully expect this going into the job. |

Don't forget OUR first year of IHL duty to Florida. During the season NOBODY got called up-even for one game. If a player is in a top farm team to a major league and sees no movement up, my guess is moral is going to be down after awhile. Look at Carolina when they won their cup and the number of players that came through Cincinnati. Unless you plan to buy a title, your farm system needs to be producing. |

WRONG!!!
Patrick LeBeau was called up during the 1993-94 season and played four games with Florida.
Jeff Greenlaw was called up during the 1993-94 season and played four games with Florida.
Len Barrie was called up during the 1993-94 season and played two games with Florida.
Doug Barrault was called up during the 1993-94 season and played two games with Florida.
Pokey Reddick was called up during the 1993-94 season and played two games with Florida.
Jamie Leach was called up during the 1993-94 season and played two games with Florida.
Stephane Richer was called up during the 1993-94 season and played two games wtih Florida.
Dallas Eakins was called up during the 1993-94 season and played one game with Florida.
Florida's draft picks were still a year or two away from turning pro and the guys they sent to Cincinnati were primarily depth guys. Jamie Linden was the only player they assigned to the Cyclones that Florida thought had a chance to be anything more than short term NHL help. |

You are right DH, I was thinking of the 95-96 season but we weren't still linked up with Florida then. Although the callups were short, I never felt Forida really used us to any advantage. As you can see by your list, 4 games was all anyone played.

Florida was competitive as an expansion team in 1993-94 and didn't have many injuries so there wasn't a reason to call up players.
After the 1994-95 season, the Panthers opted out of the final two years of their affiliation agreement with the Cyclones because their draft picks from 1993 were turning pro and they wanted them to play and develop in the American Hockey League.
As part of the escape clause, the Panthers had to continue to supply the Cyclones with two goalies and two skaters in 1995-96 and one goalie and two skaters in 1996-97. Dave Tomlinson, Mike Casselman and Todd MacDonald were among the players the Cyclones received during those two seasons.
Had Bobby Clarke remained the Panthers GM, they probably wouldn't have opted out after the second year of the affiliation agreement. Bryan Murray replaced Clarke and preferred the AHL over the IHL when it came to player development.
