Been out of the loop for awhile. Today while I was biking from my apartment to downtown I came up by the ballpark and around USBA, is it just me or did they do some cosmetic work and repaint the red and blue awnings outside? Any idea if they plan to improve some of their operations this year? With the clones getting more and more attendance I've been wondering if they've come up with a way to get people in the door more quickly.
Bummed I have to be at work during the first home game, but can't wait to see some hockey on Tuesday. |

I'd love to see some new glass. The glass at Northlands is better than USBA.

That is because the glass ia actually being "used" at USBA unlike Northlands. And I am pretty sure they replaced the glass late in the 2008 season? I can't remember when exactly.
One thing I do not understand is why they don't have the Cyclones logo on the outside of USBA. I know that US Bank sponsors the arena but if there could be a picture of Barret holding the kelly cup on the side of the building... uh that would easily increase attendance. |

Sorry Randy, the glass is better quality at Northlands. Northlands is using tempered glass I believe whereas USBA is still using plexi-glass. Plexi is cheap and durable but gets marked up very easily. Tempered glass stays clean better but it's really expensive and breaks rather easily. |

Well that makes sense then, so technically it is better quality for what it is being used for. |

Most NHL teams use tempered glass or lexan. Lexan gives you the best of both worlds but it is pricey as well. As much as I would love to see new glass at USBA it is rather cost prohibitive for at team at the AAA level. |

Sitting low behind the net where the glass is most marked up , I don't remember new glass since the Cyclones returned. Each year those in the section all talk about how bad it is especially since the same spots are in your view almost no matter where the puck is. Is there at least some way to clean or partially clean these spots off? |

Maybe they just replaced a entire corner then, because I am 100% sure remember when they replaced some of it. A Bombers player skated over and purposely hit his stick against it and made a long mark when it was nearly brand new.
I highly doubt they can clean any spots off... unless its rubber marks from the puck but that would take days to do by hand |

I can say 99% for sure that the glass has not been replaced recently. Maybe one broken section or two here and there, but not everything. The first few games we went to back in 06/07 we sat low in a couple of sections, but eventually moved up because the glass is so marked up and hard to look through for a couple of hours. We looked at it again before picking our seats for this year... Still marked up. Badly.
Plexi glass is nearly impossible to clean or polish. It scratches too easily. If you try to remove the scuff marks with anything remotely abrasive the most likely result it that you'll make it worse.

I'm not certain about improvements but I had a rough time at the arena today, apparently you are no longer allowed to park at ice level and pass through security on the way to the box office. Kinda tough for me because I parked in the employee lot like I have millions of times and was told I had to cross the road and take the elevator or stairs to plaza. No inside box office sales are allowed now and I still had to run to the offices on the 3rd floor, so I had to back track to GABP, run down the stairs and then trough the security area, sign in and then to the office level?????? In the grand scheme not a real big deal but every year there seems to appear little quarks that just wants me to rip my hair out.
Apparently there have been folks going to the box office and then wandering, not certain how this is going to help things considering i could just sign in to go to the office and then still wander but hey?
lastly, any one use the groupon? (internet coupon site) I was able to get tickets for saturday today from the box office despite the office stating those coupons could only be used the day of the game?.....welcome back hockey, good to see you again, and I missed you. |

I'd venture a guess that Northland's ice sees far more activity in a week (even in week with a couple home games) then does USBA with all the youth practices/games, mens' leagues etc... |

Was thinking the same fangers. The hits might not be as hard but that ice is used by hockey players from 5-10 or later almost every week night. |

The glass at Northland actually gets used a whole heck of a lot more than USBA. They run long hours every day. They have figure skating and public sessions, but a whole lot of hockey. I played a game there at 1045 last night.

You are not understanding what I'm saying. I'm talking about how physical the players are in the ECHL compared to the games there. |
