| Do we think they'll win another game soon? I'm starting to doubt it. |

| I think if they fix the PP we can regain some much needed confidence, last year remember Victoria started 2-10-0 in the first 12 games, and 6-13-3 in the first 22 games and they finished 34-32-4-2 and made the playoffs. You cannot in this league judge too quick in the first 7 games because nobody knows when a team can pull off 5 or 6 straight wins. If the Clones fix the PP that would be a major upgrade. |

| No improvement from my eyes. Two morel goals given up on PK. No one moved out from around the net on PK or even strength. Ok at getting the puck out with speed but no offensive continuity or system. Now scoring less than 3 goals per game. While goalies have been left out to dry a lot- now a GAA of nearly 5--does anyone remember a great save by either of our goalies in the last two games or for that matter a check that woke up the sleeping building? 10% of the season gone and our lone win was in overtime when we scored by flipping the puck in off the goalies back from behind the net. We really need a spark of some kind tomorrow. |

Sparks of energy but mostly dead. Efforts to stand up on D in the neutral zone keep hanging the goalies out to dry. Still getting roughed up physically and pushed around in our own building.
Delory is currently a waste of bench space. His presence intimidates nobody and he can't seem to take a shift without going to the box for an obstruction penalty. I think he had one shift tonight, went to the box immediately, and sat the rest of the night.
Anybody got Hans' cell number? This crap is painful to watch.

| That was ugly tonigiht... I wasn't there Saturday but friends who were there said it was just as bad...try to pull Pickard at the end and we can't even get the puck deep enough in the offensive zone to get him to the bench - are you kidding me??? Opponent scores a goal and celebrates the whole length of your bench and he's not on his a$$ his next shift (or any other shift after that)??? pathetic. as a team there was no fire, no energy...so many things to address not even sure where to start as they're not even executing basic hockey things at this point... |

Yeah, I could live with the losing if we weren't also getting punked in the process. I think Minella and O'Hanley were the only guys to actually hit anyone tonight.
I hate to say it, but that stuff is pathetic. There is a TON of work to be done. I'm actually kind of glad our next ticket isn't until the 13th. After the last two games I don't really want to see anymore of that for a while.
So much for being bigger and more talented. Ugh.

So do we think Skalde isn't getting them ready, didn't recruit effectively, or just came in so late he couldn't get it done. I suspect another couple games like these two and you can expect to hear some boos coming from the home crowd.
I agree with Fangers. You don't celebrate like that, without paying a price. That's hockey 101. |

I don't usually post much but I've gotta vent.
The first thing that just is amazing to me is that for the second game in a row, we can't even get in our offensive zone for the first few minutes of the game. We did not have possesion in our offensive zone until there were 16 minutes left in the 1st period. Can we come out with a little fire? It's like we don't even realize that the game started.
Right now this team does nothing well. No physicality at all. No emotion. Terrible defense. Weak goaltending. I can't figure out what they are even attempting to do on offense. The PK is the worst I have ever seen at any level. PP looks like they are pressing too much and making panicy type passes.
This team should have plenty of talent. They currently have 9 returning players from last year's team. The players assigned by Milwaukee and Rochester come with descent resumes. I don't know if the problem is players not buying into the new systems or are the systems ineffective and in need of change. If I was coaching this team I would not even know where to begin because so many things need fixed. The good news is that we only have 34 more home games to go. |

Yeah. I'm old school hockey and that crap just won't fly.
Saturday night Lord put a stick to Pierce's head and there was no response. Eggo took a shot right in front of the bench and there was no response. Tonight the goalie got run over a couple of times... Nothing. Visitors rubbing it in in front of the bench... Nothing.
Seriously. That breaks every rule of the hockey code, and it's only going to get worse if it doesn't stop ASAP. This team intimidates nobody in no way.
I have no idea if the coach has the team on a short leash or if nobody is stepping up, but whatever it is it's pure crap.

The PK killed the Cyclones again. Last night Elmira went 3/6 on the PP. A 60% PK ain't gonna cut it. It also doesn't help when a vet like Reynolds takes a silly slashing penalty when the team is already shorthanded.
I thought that the Cyclones had numerous opportunities to open up a decent lead early but weren't finishing. I'm not concerned with the offense; the goals will come.
I'm not seeing a team that's getting pushed around like others on this board are. This team appears to be a bit more physical than Weber's were, although that's admittedly not saying much.
Goaltending is poor to this point. While the defense isn't anything to brag about, I haven't seen any big saves in the two home games. Jeremy Smith would be very nice to have around right now.
This team is going to be fine. Assuming the goaltending gets better. The PK will improve. It has to Guys will start finishing better. A 1-4-2 start isn't ideal, but it's not a season killer either. Other than two awful periods (game 1 period 2-outscored 5-0- vs. Elmira and the 3rd period of the home opener-outscored 5-1 by Wheeling), the Cyclones have only been outscored by 3 goals. The team is not as bad as their record indicates.
A few wins will build some much needed confidence. I wouldn't at all be surprised to see the worm turn tonight vs. Kzoo. |

UGLY - The word best to describe these first two home games. First, both goaltenders looked like Saturday night bar league goalies who became EBUGS that were forced into action. We had the same problem last year, now lets see if the new coaches can settle them down. Kinda worries me since the assistant coach was himself a goalie and they are looking that bad. Second, stupid penalties like last year but the penalty kill is not bailing us out. CLEAR THE PUCK !!!!! Third, power play. Haven't seen that for two years so why should this year be different. Plus point- very good to see the "season ticket holder of the game" promotion with a chance to sit on the bench before the game.If I ever get it even the coaches will be looking for skates just to get on the ice and away from my mouth ! |

Catch 22, I agree completely, in the second period, the Goalie got ran over and NOTHING! The oncoming shift casually skated over and the play resumed and the line on the ice just stood around looking confused. I thought I was missing something!!
And what exactly is Skalde doing with Delory? He should be the guy making sure that kind of play comes with a price. Hudson should fill that roll as well to some extent.
I think I figured something out though! I'm spoiled. After the last three years, I've come to expect winning and I'm not used to this. |

Is it talent, coaching, or effort?
As was said in a previous posting, we have a much larger contingent of returning players than we are use to who played well last year. They are complimented by a large number of new players assigned by the AHL affliates rather than mostly rookie players from never heard of small college programs who take half the season, if ever, to mature. Included is one returning goalie who was a playoff MVP, one who spent the entire season last year in the AHL, and one top prospect who was an All Star from a highly regarded college program. Doesn't seem that talent is an issue.
That leaves coaching and effort. There is obviously a real change in coaching philosophy that has not YET paid off. Much more of an offensive process from Weber's defense first emphasis. PK in the last few years was based on packing in the low slot, cutting off the lanes, and not letting anyone near the net for tip ins or rebounds without someone all over him. Now there are people running around out high, lots of open lanes, and no physical play. Tifu got a rebound goal on the PK last night at the side of the net with not a Cyclone within ten feet. Bad rebound by goalie but equally bad defense. On the fourth goal last night, Donati walked right through 3 players down the slot without being hit at all. Seemed like all three were trying to poke check the puck to start a rush rather than check him off the puck
On offense we are use to seeing a deliberate passing game out of the defense zone the past few years. Get control of the puck in our zone, go behind the net to set up, and start the series of passes out and across center ice. This team gets control and quickly turns to carry the puck out into the neutral zone and then the offensive zone with one player. Nice and pretty when it works but the third goal last night was a takeaway at the blue line doing that which led to a 2 on 1 goal. In short, this is a much more risk taking offensive philosophy. Maybe in a few weeks we will all be raving about this "out score" them rather than "out defense" them approach, but for now the reality is we are being outscored by almost 2 goals a game which is unheard of. The philosophy is not working----as yet I hope.
Why is it not working? It is not an issue of "getting use to it". (Wheeling and Elmira have new systems and coaches and have outscored us 11-5 at home the last two games). I am not sure the players have bought into this change. Certainly all of the returning players saw the results last year using a different approach. I wonder what effect the JC Sawyer release had on the team? Did they read that as a "do it my way or the highway" statement by the coaches? There just doesn't seem to be the spark and the intensity. In the two home games we have been ahead 2-1 in both games and then given up 8 goals!! That is worse than horrible. The other team kicks it up a notch and we seem to be unable to respond.
I posted a few weeks ago that I was not upset with the trade of Morehouse. I was wrong and should have been upset. These last two games look like practice scrimages. I have seen no one trying to spark the team and the previous posts about the lack of response to cheap shots etc is proof of this. Even though the skating tempo has picked up, frankly I have been bored during these games. Lots of pretty fast skating but no physical play, no great scoring plays ( except for the goal mouth pass Saturday by Pierce), and no intensity. Anyone seen a memorable body check recently? Who is the spark? Who can make big plays? Either the system has to change by the coaches, ( which I doubt will happen) or it needs to be played with intensity and grit by the players starting tonight.

O'Hanley seems to be trying to light a fire, but it's not catching. Minella made a couple of decent checks last night, but otherwise... Crickets chirping.
Honestly, I know it's only 2 games, but this is the least inspired, least physical, least effective hockey I've ever seen.
Yes, I'm worried. Big changes are needed and fast.
