For the past two years, I have been taking all of my hockey card doubles, putting them in packs of 20, and giving them out to kids at Cyclones games. I give out about 50 packs per game, and the kids always seemed to enjoy these. I did this to promote the game, get kids interested in the sport, and, I thought, to support the team. I have done this at well over 40 games, giving away abour 40,000 cards in that time. I walked through security each time with these cards with no problem.
Tonight I was told I cannot do this any more for "liability" reasons. I don't know who the guy was who told me this, he was standing by the Kelly Cup at the time. When I said I would be calling the office to ask about this on Monday, he said he would be the guy I would be talking to. He said if I can pass out hockey cards at a hockey game, they would have to let everyone pass out things, including things that could be "harmful to kids". I say bull****. Political correctness says we can make a stupid rule for a stupid reason.
This is the reason for the first time in 15 years, I will not be getting season tickets this year. I didn't get them in advance because they dropped the 1/2 season, but I was still looking into the 1/3 season package. I brought 8 people to the game tonight, I won't be doing that again.
This organization makes some bad choices. This is their loss, I will just start giving the cards to CAHA. |

I understand your frustration, but it's ultimately their decision. Unless you're sneaking in marketing or naked pictures of yourself, I don't see the problem. What's really dumb about them prohibiting you passing out hockey cards is the fact that you're bombarded with the SmartTravel registration marketing scam as SOON AS YOU WALK THROUGH THE FREAKING GATE.
Also, remember that "Do the Ellen" crap they pulled in the first intermission tonight? That guy has received a 'Cease and Desist' letter from Warner Brothers for infringement on Ellen's likeness. So much for 'liability' consideration.... |
