According to this article there are only 2 teams left. Chi-Town and Battle Creek. Queen City is in serious trouble, and Troy is just going to quit.

This is to bad but this is really no shocker. Hopefully Troy will find another league to play in. A league that isn't so poorly operated. They might as well have the championship series now with the two remaining teams.

On the bright side, the Queen City Storm lasted longer then the Central Hockey League's Stingers.

Only the SPHL has a stable life when it comes to "Single A" hockey. The league is firm even though some of the teams are not. If a team joins that league and fails, most likely its the teams fault. I said from the very get go this AAHL is trouble.

08, 10 Kelly Cup Champions
08, 10, 14 American Conference Champions
08, 09, 13 North Division Champions
08 Brabham Cup Champions

Troy Bruins Professional Hockey Team Suspends AAHL Operations

Troy, OH - The Troy Bruins professional hockey team has announced that due to a lack of long term league stability and factors outside of the team's control, the club has suspended its hockey operations in the All American Hockey League effective immediately. Despite ongoing efforts to find a solution, this decision was ultimately made in the best interest of the players, fans, partners and staff of the Troy Bruins.

All regularly scheduled Troy Bruins contests for the remainder of the AAHL season have been canceled, including the team's remaining home games inside the Hobart Arena in Troy, Ohio. All Bruins players have been released, are now unrestricted free agents, and the Bruins wish them the best in their future endeavors. The future of the Troy Bruins remains yet to be determined moving forward.

The Troy Bruins organization would like to thank all of the great Bruins fans and partners for their support over the past two seasons.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Not a big surprise, altho I expected an announcement from QC not Troy. I guess Troy's getting out while the getting's good. They'll probably be back w/something better by next season. With the Steam having problmes w/conditions at Sports Plus and teams in and out of the league etc. I don't know if they'll be able to keep going. It's too bad if they fold for Zinger and others who work the games etc., sounds like they made a good effort New Years weekend w/some Cyclones players coming out for the game.

Commissioner announcement delayed, league structure to be released tomorrow

The Northern Professional Hockey League (NPHL) has announced today that the planned announcement of the league's first commissioner will be moved to Monday, January 10th 2011. The announcement has been moved because of unexpected media delays and the chance for more media attention during the week.

The structure of the league, including how many games each team will play, team budgets and business plan will be released as planned tomorrow.

Wonder if the AAHL's demise has something to do with this.

It appears the league is now down to 3 teams. Tonight's opponent for the Storm are playing at Battle Creek. Have no confirmation yet, but I did email the broadcaster of the Battle Creek Revolution about what is going on. He hasn't gotten back to me yet but when he does, I will let everyone know.

I was looking to see what time Stick Time was at SP. No mention in any future ice schedules of the Storm.

I did receive an email from Andy Jach, the director of broadcasting for the Battle Creek team. He wouldn't confirm nor deny the league is dead, only to say the league will release info in the next few days. Giving the fact that the team the Storm were to play Saturday night was playing in Battle Creek, to me it doesn't look as if the Storm are alive. Only 3 teams will be in the league (Battle Creek, Chi-town and Lapeer which is run by the league now).

The NPHL website seems to be gone. I thought they were supposed to make an announcement, that's why I looked at their site. Guess we'll be finding out something before too much longer. Thanks Somebeach for keeping us posted.

The Battle Creek website says they play this weekend, opponent to be announced. The Chi-Town Shooters Facebook page says that they are at home this weekend.

Thanks, I was wondering if the new league was done before they even started. Seems like what's left of the AAHL is continuing on for now since they have games scheduled for this weekend.

If you do some more investigating, that website comes back to the former owners of the Lapeer team that went belly up.

Source says All-American Hockey League is history
Published: Tuesday, January 11, 2011, 6:29 PM Updated: Tuesday, January 11, 2011, 6:53 PM
Brendan Savage | Flint Journal By Brendan Savage | Flint Journal

FLINT, Michigan It appears as if the All-American Hockey League is dead.

Commissioner Rod Davidson didn't return a call to The Flint Journal but a well-connected source said that the Lapeer Loggers are history, they won't be replaced by another club in the Flint area and the AAHL is done.

There was hope that the league would survive with three teams, including one in the Flint area that would not be based in Lapeer and would not be connected with the Loggers. But the potential owner of the Flint-area team decided against going forward because of the instability of the AAHL.

The plan would have been to go forward with a three-team league Battle Creek, Chi-Town and the Flint-area team and to finish the regular-season in a month before holding a round-robin event to determine two finalists. They would have then played a five-game championship series.

Now, that plan is dead.

The AAHL lost its latest team when the Troy Bruins announced on their webiste this weekthat they have ceased operations. So losing Lapeer and Troy would leave the AAHL with three members Battle Creek, Chi-Town and Queen City, assuming Queen City is still alive.

Davidson told The Journal last week that Queen's City's future was also in doubt and only two games were scheduled for last weekend both between Battle Creek and Chi-Town, which joined the AAHL after the Indiana Blizzard folded.

Battle Creek won Friday's game 4-1 over visiting Chi-Town but it appears as if the rematch Saturday was not played. The AAHL website has no result and Battle Creek's game-by-game log on PointStreak does not show that the game was played.

Chi-Town's game-by-game log also does not show a result for Saturday.

Lapeer and Troy are the third and fourth teams to fold in the AAHL, which began the season with six members. Wooster was the first to go after the franchise relocated from Madison, Wisc. where it never played a game and Indiana was next.

Hmm, that's interesting. Seems to keep changing as to what's going on. I was looking at their Facebook pages, Chi-Town had pictures up yesterday from some community event. Battle Creek's page says they're playing Sat. having some sort of high school hockey night. Maybe between those teams they decided to go ahead w/whatever they already had planned. For this weekend anyway.

The SPHL does a great job of controlling costs and putting teams in markets where there isn't much sports competition. The product on the ice isn't even near the level of the ECHL, but its still entertaining to watch.

We lived in a small town in S.W. Georgia for a while and attended a bunch of Columbus Cottonmouths games. Lots of fun, cheap and the team is very well supported in that small community. If for no other reason that there isn't much else to do around there in the winter.

In my mind, trying a single A hockey team in a large market with multiple other college and pro teams is a less than brilliant plan.

Yes, I grew up playing hockey... In Alabama.
