Tampa Bay's acquisition of defenseman Eric Brewer from St. Louis makes the Lightning a strong contender to win the Stanley Cup.
The Boston Bruins are also poised to make a run after the trades they've made this week. |

| Roloson's been up and down lately. If he is steady come playoff time then I agree, they have a legitimate shot. I wouldn't mind seeing the B's win the Cup either. What's it been,34 years? |

Donnie.
Anything you can add from Tampa on Cedrick's injury? He has been out a long time for the usual groin injury. Cant find anything from Norfolk website or sports pages. |

I ask someone from Norfolk and the person told me that he is done for the year. |

Roloson isn't getting any younger, and he's a free agent this summer, so if a young goalie becomes available by the Feb. 28 deadline, Tampa Bay GM Steve Yzerman may make a deal to get someone he feels could be the Lightning's No. 1 goalie in 2011-12.
The last time the Bruins won the Stanley Cup, their first line had Wayne Cashman on left wing, Phil Esposito at center and Ken Hodge on right wing; Bobby Orr and Dallas Smith were their top defensive pairing, with Gerry Cheevers and Ed Johnston splitting time in goal. Yeah, it's been awhile.

Tampa has been doing it with smoke & mirrors all season.
They have scored 179 goals and allowed 185. They are -6 for the season.
It would be interesting to know when the last time a team which was negative in goals differential won a Stanley Cup. I'll guess that it has happened-in the "Original 6" Era.
The wizard will come out from behind the Lightning's curtain come playoff time. |

Have you attended any NHL games involving the Lightning this season? Yeah, that's what I thought. |

I've watched 4 or 5 on the tube. But, that's completely irrelevant for the purpose of my analysis.
I know that numbers trouble you. Do you know what goals differentials for Stanley Cup Champions have been in the past decade? Since the original expansion?

I do, but the team the Lighting will put on the ice over the final 20 games of the season and in the playoffs will be different than the one they had the first 62 games. They've upgraded in goal with Roloson and might not be done there yet, and Brewer is a big time addition on the blueline.
The Lightning have addressed a couple of needs and they'll make another deal or two before the deadline that will strengthen them defensively.

| Phoenix is a division leader with a +6 goal differential, and that's before tonight's game against Tampa (at last look it was 8-1 Tampa) so that would put Tampa on the plus side and Phoenix on the minus side. |
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Five-point night for Vinny Lecavalier (one goal, four assists) and the hard-working Teddy Purcell with a hat trick. |
