| My fellow cyclone faithful, i have been looking @ www.heckersgrove.com and its forums as HockeyHelper22. and when ever i want to speak my mind a administrator named Bad Habit argues with me on everything I do. What do I do? HELP??? |

Ignore them....they're nothing but a bunch of fools over there. I stopped going there a long time ago because no matter what a cyclone fan says they will rip on you.
Bad Habit claims to want to keep the conversations civil, but it never happens.
So let the 5 or 6 them (and their various extra personalities) talk to one another, I see no need to worry about them. |

I followed them a bit during the Duck/Railraider debacle, and it seemed like the same story on the Railraider boards. If you dared speak negatively, your post would be deleted. I posted doubt that there were enough hockey fans anymore. Poof - post gone. Debate me if you wish, I wanted to be wrong. When that fell apart, the Hecklers Grove posted "shame-on-you" rant really turned my off. Then instead of celebrating the resurrection of hockey, it seems its stuck in protest. So be it.
Its better here anyway. |

That board is full of ignorant hypocrites, it's best to simply delete any bookmark you had for it and ignore it. The moderators are a joke, they will allow for any and all knobpolishing of the Robinsons and what they have done and claim to support all hockey, but clearly do not, as bashing of the Gardens/Ducks/Railraiders (should we count that failure?) is not at all tolerated, but the constant whining about the Cyclones is at worst given a blind eye, but mostly seemingly encouraged.
Let the babies have their bottle and pout, they're not accomplishing anything productive and seem to entertain each other. We can all enjoy hockey in the meantime. |

| I went out to Hecklers grove and was amazed to findout that malcontent still exist between Ducks/Cyclones/Railraider fans. I felt that I have always had the best argument for why I have always followed the Cyclones and I have always been amazed why fans of the Cyclones simply stopped being fans when they left the Gardens, I suppose maybe I'm a bigger Cyclones fan than Hockey fan and have always felt that if the Cyclones informed the public that they will be playing their games at the Blue Ash YMCA I would still sign up for tickets. You see my wife took me to my first Hockey game in 1992 and since that time I have been a Cyclone fan, after the Cyclones suspended operations, we simply found other things to do. I was approched by Duck ticket reps and then by Railraider reps and simply gave them this simple explination.....We have two stongly supported college basketball teams in Cincinnati, if one would decide to suspend operations, i'm fairly certain that you would not have any crossover fans.I'm a Cyclones fan and chose not to be a Ducks/Railraiders fan because the Clones is all I know. This is my first post ever on this board and felt that I needed to get this of of my chest after visiting hecklers grove. I've been a fan of the Cyclones since 1992 and simply followed my team....Thanks P.S. I plan to stay of Hecklers Grove site forever and I'm sorry I broched such a sensitive subject |

Speaking as one of the "babies", "ignorant hypocrites" and "total stooges" that go to HG, I believe I have seen more than enough stupidity from a few individuals on both sides of this. I was a Ducks season ticket holder for 3 seasons, had 4 deposits in for the RailRaiders, and now I have a half-season package for the Cyclones.
I am a self-confessed *hockey* fan more than I am a fan of a particular team. I went to Ducks games, I go to Cyclones games, I go to some UC hockey games and the occasional high school game. I live a good hour's drive from USBA and the Gardens.
I think I'm the only living member of both the Greater Cincinnati Blueliners Club and the Cincinnati Cyclones Fan Club (although the only thing I have to prove the latter is a handwritten receipt given to me on opening night).
SCUBA makes an interesting point about being a 'Clones fan first and the comparison to college basketball. I heard a lot of whining from Ducks/RailRaiders fans about why Cyclones fans wouldn't support the Ducks/RailRaiders. Now I'm hearing similar whining from Cyclones fans about why Ducks/RailRaiders fans won't go to Cyclones games (not from here, mind you - this is my first post ever on here). If it's okay for someone to be a Cyclones fan to the exclusion of all the other hockey in the area, then it ought to be okay for someone to be a Hockey Bearcats/Hockey Redhawks/Hockey Norse/Whatever fan to the exclusion of all the other hockey in the area, shouldn't it? |

I am probably in the same boat as you. I was a Cyclone fan, followed them to downtown, then as the prices went up beyond my reach, I went to some Duck games and was all set for Railraiders. But I am a hockey fan. I loved the Clones and the Ducks and enjoyed them both. But when it came to choosing between them, it came down to value for the dollar. Now the Cyclones are back and I am overjoyed!
I dont get to Blue Jacket games much because of the price.
But, sometimes the media coverage is a vicious cycle. No one knows about it, and no one covers it. Suddenly people show interest and it gets some print coverage. More people show up, it gets radio. The place gets packed and it gets TV.
Well, I still have my yard sign up.

OK, OK, I'll be nice and retract part of what I said. I'll amend my statment to say "most" of the HG are stooges. Overall, the site is a lame anti-Cyclone site. Whenever anything good or even neutral is said about the Cyclones, there are a slew of postings in response attacking the topic and the writer. Whenever somebody says something bad about them, the "hell yeahs" all kick in.
In that sense, the site if full of stooges. If you are not one of them, you have may apology. |

Well, I'll leave it to you to judge whether I'm a 'stooge'. Anything I've said there, here, in the Blueliners Club forums, and maybe other places is available for you to go through and see what I think.
For me, "fair" doesn't mean an equal amount of positives and negatives are said. "Fair" means no more criticism than is due the party is leveled, while no more credit than is due is given - and those are very subjective measures, almost always affected by personal biases. Also, there is *way* too much talk on Internet message boards by people who claim to have "secret sources" whose identities they cannot divulge. This happens on both sides. My rule of thumb: if someone tells me something and cannot or won't tell me where/who they found out the info (or tells me who their source is, but informs me that I cannot tell anyone), then I treat the information in public as though it doesn't exist.
For my part, nobody I know personally from HG has ever been ugly to me for being a Cyclone season ticket holder or for joining the Cyclones Fan Club. There are some people who post there who at like idiots and go out of their way to make disparaging posts about the Cyclones, but I certainly don't take their views to be representative of all or even most of the people there, and I try to avoid disussions with those people.
Case in point the other direction: I was thoroughly appalled and disgusted on Cyclones opening night when Wildman Walker said that Cincinnati hockey is "back where it belongs" at US Bank Arena. It was, in my opinion, another lame example of the type of stupidity and closed-mindedness that bred the hockey wars in the first place. Now, his comments have not stopped me from going to the games. But, they have certainly helped me understand that Wildman might be in the category of "Cyclones fan", not the category of "hockey fan", and as such, is probably not someone I could enjoy a conversation with.

Not sure how long you have been here in Cincy, BUT..... US Bank Arena (originally known as Riverfront Coliseum) like the Gardens was ALSO originally built for hockey! WHA Stingers called it home for a number of years. So Wildmans' comment not so out of place.

I've never lived *in* Cincinnati. Born in Columbus, moved to Highland County when I was about 3, lived in eastern Ky for a few years during college (where I became a fan of ECHL hockey through the Huntington Blizzard). My first ever live hockey game was a Stingers game.
I'm not saying that USBA isn't a good venue for hockey. But, to call it "where hockey belongs" in Cincinnati when the Gardens, Sports Plus, and other venues are the home ice for the various college and high school teams in the area just seems like a bad statement to make. Sorta like calling PBS "where football belongs" in Cincinnati and acting like Nippert Stadium and all the high school fields around town are third-class or don't even exist. |

I think you're a little too over critical of the statement and are taking it out of context ... I have no problem calling a venue where a PROFESSIONAL team plays "where (insert sport here) belongs, i.e. Paul Brown Stadium, Great American Ballpark, and while it may still seem sketchy, the only professional team (be it minor league) playing hockey in Cincinnati is the Cyclones. High school/college sports are on a whole different level platform than professional. People will more recognize PBS than say, the Harrison high school football field. Some might have took this as a cheap criticism on the Ducks failure at the Gardens from Wildman, but in my opinion it was just a way to get the fans attending the opener in Cincinnati excited for hockey. Sort of a "Finally, ______ has come back" type of moment.
These statements are in no way, shape or form putting down (for lack of a better term) lower level, non-professional sports, such as high school or college. It's merely a figure of speech. I think BannerLady was pointing out what some people seem to have forgotten or might not know -- the Riverfront Coliseum (US Bank Arena, Firstar Center, The Crown) was BUILT for a hockey team to play hockey in. Because of what the arena has turned into being more of a concert/event venue and a higher level of hockey playing on the other side of town in another arena built for hockey for years (the Gardens), people seem to not know or remember that the Coliseum is ideally a hockey arena, as you experienced going to a WHA Stingers game. |

| does anybody know if the board moderator at cincy sports message board is the same one at hecklers grove? it seems i have been banned from cincy sports for some harassing emails and posts even though i have posted 1 thing and dont know the persons email address. |
