Looks like the ECHL might be down a western team. There are other reports indicating that its about a 70% chance that Victoria is moving to the WHL.

I did read elsewhere that a replacement is in the works. I wonder if that is the Chicago team? that wouldnt really help the west however.

They still have the Reno franchise possibility. This has been on the
ECHL books for a few years.

A seven team Western Conference? The league needs western US teams badly. I don't think the people in Victoria really took the ECHL seriously to begin with.I would imagine the Chicago team will be in the North Division, with Wheeling moving to the Atlantic.

The ECHL should look to pluck a couple of the western CHL teams (Colorado Eagles come to mind), and try to build affiliations with the NHL teams out that way.

I think in the opposite direction. The western conference is kind of a joke, and if they can't even keep 8 teams then it just needs to go. Ownership of a Chicago franchise would likely never accept western conference assignment due to travel costs. They'll be in our division.

I think the league should contract back to the east coast if they can't put a minimum of 8 western teams on the ice. Maybe pick up a few CHL or SPHL franchises and field a ~16 team league, Northern vs. Southern conferences.
Travel costs would be reduced and honestly it wouldn't hurt the competition level at all.

Yes, I grew up playing hockey... In Alabama.
