| The Philadelphia Flyers have signed former Cincinnati Mighty Ducks goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov to a nine-year, $51 million deal. He's one of the best goalies in the world but not someone you want to give a nine-year deal to. |

| They traded their two best forwards, Mike Richards and Jeff Carter, to create cap space to sign Bryzgalov. That's a questionable move. |

I think after the last two years of musical chairs, the Flyers really needed to get a real Number 1 and Ilya seems the best available. Good for him. Their fans were going nuts with what they had seen in goal for the last several years. Its a risk but one I think they needed to take.
It does go against what seems to be the trend however for the past few years-not to spend a great deal of $$ on a long term contract for a great goalie, but rather get a good goalie and spend the saved money building the team around him. The free agent market for goalies has been dismal the last few years. Philly has tried to do that for years and Chicago of course tried it last year after winning the cup and letting their goalie depart.
The rationale is that goalies tend to go hot and cold and and there is not much difference between what a great goalie and good goalie produces over a full year let alone over a long term contract. You never know who is going to get hot/cold/hurt. Donnie, think you would agree that the Bolts got Rolonson to be a good goalie never dreaming he would play like he did. Thomas started the year as number 2 and there was talk the Bruins tried to trade him after his performance last year to get rid of his high paying long term contract. Luongo is touted to be one of the best in the league and we all saw what happened to him in the finals. The teams just don't think tying up so much money for a long term contract is wise, but when your fans revolt over that like they have in Philly, I guess you need to make the move. My concern is that the pressure in Philly is not the pressure in Phoenix or Anaheim. Goal tending is as much a game between the ears as it is between the pipes and even Bobby Clark will get hung out if this doesn't work out. |

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
