I also read on eliteproprospects.com that Barrett is rumored to be going to Asploven HC. That was posted back in May and there has been nothing confirmed yet that I can see.

I talked to both of them last night at the Hockey vs. Cancer/ HP4K fundraiser last night. Dustin is indeed headed for grad school in Vancouver, BC but did say he planned on staying in shape in case something came up. Barrett said he wants to play for the Cyclones but hadn't been offered a contract as of yet.

No matter what happens it was a pleasure to watch both of them play here in Cincinnati. The HP4K and community interaction was above and beyond what they had to do and should be viewed as the real accomplishment in their careers.

I've had a gut feeling that Ehgo is not a Skalde type of guy and wouldn't be back. I've been hoping I'm wrong.
Barrett can still produce, is a class guy, and the fans love him. IMO his sweater goes in the rafters and he should have a contract here until such a time when he either wants to leave or no longer puts up numbers. That time isn't now.

One thing is for certain... If Skalde lets the captain go he DAMNED WELL BETTER HAVE A GREAT YEAR. And when I say great, I mean GRRRREAT. He doesn't have the support to make such a move and then have the same mediocre results he had last season. He'll be packing immediately.

I totally agree with Catch22. I hope Barrett comes back and has a great year. Hate to see Dustin go, he came down to the Northern Kentucky Ice Center and talked with the kids and took pictures with them this past spring and he also came into the locker rooms while we were at US Bank for the intermission skates. Best of luck to him in his future endeavors.

If Liambas is Coach Skalde's "type of guy" and Barrett isn't, this looks
like it's going to be a long season. One final season for Barrett and the
last game of the season the retirement of his jersey (final retirement
after the final's fourth victory) would be a fitting end for everyone.

Barret is a Cyclone Skalde said himself back when we made the bad move of trading McIlveen. He goes back on that he WILL LOOSE the fan support before the season even starts, including this fan and I am sure most everyone on this board.

Too bad we don't get to vote I would keep Barret before we endured another season with Skalde. I think Barret might have not have had his greatest season last year , but under the coaching structure of last season who could have had a great season.

Maybe Skalde knows if Barret stays, and the team tanks again. Skalde is out of a job, and Barrett will take over? lol

I have enjoyed Barret since the team has come back. He is a true Cyclone, and deserves his number in the rafters.

I would have to think Skalde knows his popularity with the fans is about 50/50 between those who like him and those that, shall we say, have their doubts. Not bringing Barret back because he doesn't "Fit his system" would probably be a big nail in his coffin if this team doesn't produce. I think Catch pretty much got his post right on the money.

...And on the eighth day, GOD created the Cyclones!

Let me start off by saying that I hope Ehgo returns and I am not a fan of Skalde. However, the Cyclones have hired him as their coach and he is entitled to put a team on the ice that best reflects his system even if I don't like the system. He knows better than we do that his future depends on a winning and if he doesn't think Ehgo gives him what he needs they should not sign him. I think we all know of too many "fan favorites" in other sports who were kept around too long for PR reasons. Perhaps a good marketing play, but at the end of the day, the best marketing play is winning. I hope he signs but if he doesn't it is Skalde's bed to sleep in.

1. Even if he's not a "Skalde Guy" I'd betcha Ehgo would play on the 3rd line to stay here, and where in the ECHL are you going to find a better 3rd line player? That's a rhetorical question as the answer is pretty easy.

2. Last time he was on the ice he was still producing points, even on that mediocre, back into the playoffs team. I see nothing to indicate that he's a "fan favorite that stayed around too long."

3. I don't have much faith in Skalde, and when he's gone I hope he hasn't already cleaned house of guys we like around here. That truly would suck.

4. If you want to see Ehgo in a Wheeling sweater, raise your hand...
I didn't think so.

Egho's Twitter - "I was informed today that the Cyclones don't want me back for this season"

Really, really, really hoping that this is a joke / PR stunt.

I doubt it would be a PR stunt / joke. I'm going to guess it is true, I hope Barrett has enough time to sign with another team before next season starts. Good luck to him!

I imagine with all the high quality CHL talent we're landing Barrett became expendable. Couple that talent with a Playstation like offensive scheme and were sure to win at least 14 games this year.

Should he play in the ECHL this year I imagine every time he comes to town he's going to make Skalde regret his decision.

Dumb move Cyclones. Sign the guy, let him play and let him retire gracefully.

Thought they were better at PR than that. Let him play a year and retire him at the end of the year. My guess he goes to Europe rather than ECHL. More money and the game there fits his skill better. Thanks for the memories Captain--and especially the leadership.
