| I dont agree with this at all. This is a very ballsy move by Skalde given the fact that last year didnt wow anyone. Its going to get ugly early for Skalde should the team start poorly. Showing the most popular player and Captain the door is going to seriously damage the little fan support he has before the season even begins. Good luck Barrett. This sucks. |

The decision is what it is and nothing any of us says is going to change it. Hate to see Barrett leave this way, but like it or not, tough personnel decisions need to be made all the time in the world of sports and Skalde is the one currently in charge of making them for this team. I'm not saying this is a good or bad decision, it just is what it is. Skalde is doing what he thinks is best for this team and we will all find out together if it was the right choice to make.
Thanks for the leadership and championships, Barrett!! I wish him nothing but the best in his future endeavors. |

I know of a career .500 coach that damned well better have his best season ever this year, by a whole lot.
Things better go well or you'll be able to hear crickets chirping in the arena by January.
So who is the new captain? Aubin?

| Wasn't Barrett one of the top 5 scorers on our team for the past 4 or so years? |

Top point man the last two years, #2 the year before that, #3 before that, and #5 his first year here. Just turned 30. For those who have forgotten he was recognized by the league with the Sportsmanship award for the 2009-2010 season. From the press release:
"The ECHL's Sportsmanship Award is annually presented to the player who is judged to have exhibited the best sportsmanship with a high standard of playing ability. A vote of the league's coaches determines the winner. Ehgoetz becomes the first player in team history to win the honor.
The fifth-year forward from Kincardine, ON has spent the last four seasons in Cincinnati after launching his career with Utah (ECHL) during the 2005-06 campaign. In four seasons with the Cyclones, Ehgoetz holds 21 team records, including the career scoring lead (233 points), games played (269), assists (152), first goals (21), shorthanded goals (eight) and shots on goal (690). He has played for coach Chuck Weber in all five of those seasons.
"Barret Ehgoetz exemplifies what you look for in a hockey player," Head Coach Chuck Weber said. "He is a solid citizen in the community, a leader in the locker room and exceptional player on the ice. The fact that coaches in the ECHL select the winner of the Sportsmanship Award tells you that these traits have been rightfully recognized and rewarded."
All of those team records were increased last year and others were added. Guess his credentials are not what Skalde is looking for while the Liambas credentials are. |

| I've never been less interested in an upcoming season...started with keeping skalde...then resigning lameass...now this move...I'll get it out of the way now so I won't have to say it in the spring: I told you so. And I told you so when they hired skalde last year...this organization going down hill and fast...thankfully I have plenty of other hockey options... |

What a sour taste in most Cyclone fans right now. I plan on sending an email to my rep to let him know I'm not happy. I would rather see Barrett than Aubin if you had to choose a veteran to bring back. Aubin has been known to "dog it" at times on the ice but Ehgoetz is nothing but grit on the ice and class all around. |

| Well, first thing is we can't jump to conclusions. We don't know what the payroll is for the team so until we hear something official it is best not to assume anything. |

I can't imagine salary has anything to do with the decision. None of these guys make any real money and there is a very small salary cap to be divided among all players with a minimum. The following gives a great overview of the ECHL Agreement all teams need to live with:

| As much as I don't agree with saying that the Cyclones don’t want Ego back. This is a real test for Skalde, if he wants to get rid Ego and start constructing his own team he better produce on the ice. If not this season going to be a long one. I'm not saying last year was not frustrating for us fans but to Skalde’s defense he got brought in late and he was playing with Chuck’s team and we all know that Chuck and Skalde run a totally different system. I’m willing to give him a chance but he better do something because if not there going to be a lot of pissed of Cyclones fan, myself included!!! I hope he knows what he is doing! |

I'm stewing over here.
As I've said 1000 times, this is not a hockey town. When the Cyclones came back a few years ago the arena was embarrassingly empty on some nights (attendance at our first game was 700) and there was zero local media coverage. I honestly didn't think the team would survive.
But it has survived and it has done so by WINNING, getting media coverage, nice promotions, and having solid citizens that the fans love in the home sweaters.
I understand that Webber wasn't going to be a career coach here, but dammit, a house cleaning by a guy with absolutely nothing to speak of on his coaching resume and a mediocre first year here is begging to just throw all of the progress of building that fan base away. I honestly at this point wish we hadn't bought our season tickets already.
I HOPE the team is successful, but a career .500 coach that's bringing in CHL talent and showing guys like Ehgo the door is leaving me with no positive feelings at all.
There is plenty of room on the roster to keep the guy that consistently leads the team in scoring, the fans love, and who WANTS TO STAY. HUGE HUGE HUGE mistake. And my money is on Skalde paying a price for it.

Ehgoetz holds 21 team records because he played here longer than anyone else.
Great guy to be sure, but a very average ECHL player. Is that what you want to use a veteran roster spot for? |
