From the ECHL website it sounds like a new franchise. Good to see another addition to the league. I assume they will start play 12-13.

Any relation to the old Birmingham franchise or just reviving the name?

It's a great name for a hockey team.
Yes, I grew up playing hockey... In Alabama.

According to the ECHL, it's an expansion franchise. They begin play in October 2012.
