Not really. There aren't that many unaffiliated goalies out there and Columbus/Springfield are hurting right now. Steve Mason and Mark Dekanich are the guys in Columbus. Curtis Sanford and Allen York were to play in Springfield with Paul Dainton signed as a depth guy playing in Chicago for the Express. Unfortunately Dex is out with a high ankle sprain which bumped everyone up. York got hurt the other night as well which left them with an opening. I would expect that once Dex or York are back up to speed Taylor will be back.
Taylor is capable but this call up wasn't really based on merit. |

| Just think a guy with his history only signed in the ECHL after a year in Europe for chances like this as a means to prove himself again and get back in an AHL/NHL contract. For the few $$ a week why else would he play here? My guess is he will probably be off the roster one way or the other by the end of Dec at the latest. |

The goal tending situation just got a little more interesting. Manny Legace is no longer in San Antonio and has signed a PTO with Springfield. Columbus has a battered goalie core with Steve Mason the only one who is truly healthy. Mark Dekanich is still out with ankle issues, Curtis Sanford and Allen York are both dinged up. All of this created an opportunity for Danny Taylor. We'll have to wait and see if means the return of Taylor or if Springfield keeps 2 PTO goalies and sends Paul Dainton to the Chicago Express.
On the other side, Manny's release from San Antonio could mean that guys are starting to get healthy over there so we could see a partner for Chet from them. |

Just like the musical chairs game they play between periods and it is only week one! Taylor played Sunday for Springfield and won 5-3 making 38 saves after giving up two early goals. Don't think he played his way out of the PTO with that performance but from the Springfield news: "This resulted in the recall of Dan Taylor, who played very well on Sunday in a win over Manchester. However, Taylor had to go back to Canada to get his immigration situation cleared up, which triggered a number of calls between me and the lady who handles immigration for the Blue Jackets. We put Taylor on a flight home and are hopeful that his status will be straightened out so he can return in time to play this weekend." Manny started his career with Springfield in 1994!! and is high on their list of wins, games played, shut outs etc. Could be a nostalgia signing or a back up if Danny can't get back in the country.
Watched Markstrom play for Florida the other night against the Caps and, while getting beat 3-0, I could see why they are so high on him. He is huge and has good skills. They will still probably send him back to SA when Clemmenson is ready to play so that he can play a lot. That leaves Foster and Plante on the bubble for the Cyclones and Brian played both games last weekend which makes me think he has jumped ahead of Plante for the back up to Markstrom. We will see. At least the schedule is light the next few weeks so that Chet should be able to cover all the games.

Aaron Portzline from the Cbus Dsipatch tweeted about the immigration issue with Taylor this morning shortly after I posted that. York must be ok because been recalled to Columbus. That leaves Dex and Sanford still on the shelf.
If the Blue Jackets can speed up Danny's immigration issues that would certainly help. |
