CINCINNATI, Ohio – Daniel Koger potted two goals and added two assists as the Cincinnati Cyclones (5-6-0-2) blew past the Kalamazoo Wings (9-4-0-1) by a 5-2 final score in front of 4,181 at U.S. Bank Arena on Wednesday night.
Cincinnati raced out to a 2-0 lead as Ryan Annesley and Daniel Koger scored just two minutes apart beginning at the 3:40 mark. The Wings answered back at 16:09 when Nick Sirota slid home a rebound past Cyclones goalie Chet Pickard (W, 23 saves, 4-5-0-0) to pull Kalamazoo within a goal after 20 minutes of play.
The Cyclones again jumped back ahead by two at the 9:38 mark as Evan Trupp received a tape-to-tape pass from Koger and blasted a shot past Wings goaltender Riley Gill (L, 19 saves, 7-3-0-1) for his first professional goal. Then, just over two minutes later, Chris Cahill intercepted a clearing attempt and buried a shorthanded goal at 11:46 to put Cincinnati up 4-1, a lead they carried into the second intermission.
In the final minutes, Kalamazoo was able to pull back within a pair of goals as Justin Taylor tipped home his sixth lamp-lighter of the season at the 18:13 mark. However, Kalamazoo’s comeback bid would be spoiled as Koger tallied for the second time on the night, capping off a four-point game, when he hit the empty net at 19:59. The Cyclones went up 5-2 and won the tilt by the same score.
“I was waiting for a night like this from Koger,” said Cyclones Head Coach Jarrod Skalde. “We need him to score consistently for us to continue being successful. I very was proud of his and our effort tonight.”
The Cyclones Radio Network Three Stars of the Game are as follows:
First Star: Daniel Koger (2 goals, 2 assists for Cincinnati) Second Star: Ryan Annelsely (Goal for Cincinnati) Third Star: Chet Pickard (23 saves, winning goaltender)

Funny how the best played home game of the season has not been talked about. Either Kalamazoo had their turkey dinner Wednesday morning and was half asleep or the Cyclones made them look like the biggest turkeys themselves ! Solid defense, focused goal tending and taking the shots when they were there made a great all-around game. Kinda like the covers over the top portion of the arena. They keep the crowd closer to the ice and can always be moved for larger crowds. |

By far the best game of the year thus far. The only break down seemed to be Liambas getting caught up ice on the first K-Zoo goal, but as a fill in defenseman i'll give him a pass. He seemed more than competent for 95% of his shifts.
Even the officials seemed to call a good game. And a good crowd for a Wednesday. Hopefully well see more of this effort in the future. |

I didn't get to go, but the result looks good. Chet continues to post MUCH better numbers than last year. Let's make sure we stay behind him, even if he has a bad night (and he will, all goalies do).
