Amidst Penalties, Fights, Ejections, Cyclones Prevail Over Chicago 4-3
CINCINNATI, Ohio – Mathieu Aubin tipped in the game-winning goal with 7:52 gone in the third period as the Cincinnati Cyclones (11-9-0-1) held on to defeat the Chicago Express (14-11-2-1) by a 4-3 final score in front of 2,886 at U.S. Bank Arena on Thursday night.
For the third straight game, the Cyclones were able to strike first when A.J. Jenks potted his third goal of the season at the 3:36 mark making it 1-0. Chicago answered back not even a minute later, at 4:35, as Tyler Donati lifted a wrist shot past Cyclones net minder Brian Foster (W, 27 saves, 5-1-0) to even things at one. Donati lit the lamp again at 12:55 during an Express power play to give his team a 2-1 edge. However, Cyclones captain Mathieu Aubin caught a pass from Daniel Koger and sniped a shot over the shoulder of Chicago goalie Rob Nolan (L, 18 saves, 6-7-1) to once again knot things at two heading into the first intermission.
In a penalty-marred period, both teams traded goals. Chicago made it 3-2 at the 12:40 mark when Devin DiDiomete slammed in a rebound. The lead didn’t last long, however, as Anthony Luciani slid home his eighth of the season after a tape-to-tape pass from A.J. Jenks to even the score again at three. Then, things got ugly; at the 15:48 mark, Mike Liambas was called for a five-minute major for charging, which ignited a full-scale line brawl. After all was said and done, 103 penalty minutes were handed out in the middle frame including five game misconduct penalties.
While the third period was not nearly as wild, the Cyclones were able to send the fans home happy for the ninth time this season, as Mathieu Aubin tipped in Jeff Foss’ point blast for the go-ahead, and eventual game-winning goal at 7:52. In the final minutes, Chicago pulled their goalie in an attempt to tie the game, but Foster and company held on for the 4-3 victory.
The Cyclones Radio Network Three Stars of the Game are as follows:
First Star: Mathieu Aubin (2 goals for Cincinnati, including game-winner) Second Star: Anthony Luciani (1 goal, 1 assist for Cincinnati) Third Star: A.J. Jenks (1 goal, 1 assist for Cincinnati)

| Last night's PK was probably the best effort ever wearing a Cyclones sweater. |

Agreed. I wonder how many suspensions we'll see as a result of last night's melee. We may be a little depleted the next game or two.

| I think Chicago will most likely receive more games than we will. The 2 abuse of officials game misconducts might bring more games than our fights. Just my opinion |

I looked at the box score after the 3rd period melee last night, and saw that there were 71 PIM for us, and 69 PIM for Kzoo. The funnier stat was that we were 0/0 on the PP, and they were 1/6.
We played well on the PK, but there were quite a few incidents last night where I thought a call was warranted, and none was made. It seemed from the beginning the Ref wasn't really willing to call much in our favor - until the Abuse of Officials penalties, of course. Then, it seemed like it swung our way.
I'm glad we pulled it out, but to me the Referee needs to have some coaching of his own by the league. |

| Did anyone notice the Chicago player get a ten minute misconduct for knocking over the beeramid after a Chicago goal? Probably the highlight of the night! |

| @jsun51 Same player also got 1 of the game misconducts for abuse of an official. He did something from the penalty box during the fights. |

| I thought it was a nice touch to play Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer while showing video of the Chicago player (#44 Lutz I think) skating to the bench with a bloody nose. |

To put it simply carriveaux -- The Liambus penalty was the hit that started the melee. The 2 min penalty was on the coach after it was all over. Everybody elses penalties off set with their fighting partner. |
