Delory was a joke. *I* can skate better than that guy and I'm a terrible skater.
I'm not sure who burned a 4th round draft choice on him but surely they are selling insurance by now.
As far as Liambas and "giving him a pass"...
Yeah, I'll give him one every now and then because you reasonably MUST give a guy like that a pass sometimes. You can't ask him to do what he does, effectively, but ALWAYS keep his emotions and testosterone under control. It just isn't going to happen.
The best agitators in the history of the NHL took dumb penalties all the damned time. It's just part of playing that role.
Can Mike get better at taking fewer dumb penalties?
Absolutely.
Is he going to take some dumb penalties and draw the occassional unfair call because he's Mike Liambas?
Absolutely.
Is he going to continue to knock guys off their skates and drop gloves so the skill players don't have to?
I hope so, and so far he's doing a pretty good job.
From what I have seen he does sometimes lose his temper or make a questionable hit. But he is NOT a Penner or Sgroi type. He's not a terrible skating stone handed goon who's sole purpose is to hurt people. He can play the game, and he understands his role.
I like the guy, if for no other reason than 80% of his fights are against guys that are taller, heavier and have a longer reach and I haven't seen him turtle yet. Dude has brass attachments, and lets face it, if he's wearing a Cyclones sweater we don't have to play against him, and thats a good thing. |
