CINCINNATI, Ohio – Jackals defenseman Nick Schaus broke a 1-1 tie late in the third period while Dustin Gazley added an empty netter to give the Elmira Jackals (29-17-2-2) a 3-1 victory over the Cincinnati Cyclones (22-18-1-6) in front of 2,374 at U.S. Bank Arena on Thursday night.
Garrett Wilson gave the Cyclones a lead at 15:14 of the opening stanza as he buried a rebound past Jackals goaltender Brian Stewart (W, 24 saves, 17-9-1-0), making it 1-0. However, just 43 seconds later, Aretem Demkov picked up a rebound of his own in the Cincinnati slot and sent a wrist shot under Cyclones goalie Brian Foster (L, 28 saves, 8-3-0-1) to knot the score at one through 20 minutes.
After a scoreless second period, Nick Schaus earned the break-even goal by tipping in Dustin Gazley’s shot for the eventual game-winning strike at 17:22. In the final minutes, Cincinnati pulled Foster in hopes of rallying to tie it; however, Gazley caught an outlet pass from Corey Cowick and hit the empty net, sealing a 3-1 victory for the Jackals.
Cincinnati was 0-for-3 on the power play but successfully killed off all six of the Jackals man advantages.
The Cyclones Radio Network Three Stars of the Game are as follows:

Very hard-hitting game. Kept waiting for the boys to turn it on in the third but it never happened. Biggest thing I saw was our defense constantly retreating out of the zone and leaving our front line in a 5 on 3 disadvantage. Elmira owned the area in front of their net and we constantly had "fat pucks" in front of the net and no one around to put it in. Finally got our first shot on goal after they had 10 !!! Hard loss for Foster (goal three was an ENG for Elmira). |

Offense didn't come alive until late and missed a few real good chances toward the end of the game....so close.
Worst passing.... a lot to tape to skate action...that ive seen for a long time. New lines with Luciani coming back and Aubin getting hurt didn't help, but still not real sharp.
Good effort by Foster...breakdowns happen. One goal won't win many games. |

That's a common theme this season. Let's petition the league to start our games at 8:30, since the team is obviously on mountain standard time.

| Another constant is the Cyclones' inability to hold a lead at any point in a game. Once they got that first goal, they had a chance to wrest control of the game, but they gave it right back quickly. Rarely do the Cyclones ever seem to exert their will over an opponent. It was good to see them play a physical game, though. They really needed to cash in on all these games in hand, but they're throwing them away. |
