KALAMAZOO , Michigan – After the Cyclones took an early 1-0 lead, the Kalamazoo Wings (36-25-2-6) scored six unanswered goals to defeat the Cincinnati Cyclones (33-27-2-7) by a 6-1 final score in front of 3,468 at Wings Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
For the fourth game in a row, Cincinnati was able to strike first as Ondrej Roman fed Mathieu Aubin in the slot and banged in his 29th of the season past Wings goaltender Riley Gill (W, 30 saves, 23-14-1-4) at 12:58. However, Kory Karlander beat Cyclones goaltender Brian Foster (L, 15 saves, 14-10-1-1) with a low wrist shot at the 14:40 mark to knot things at one. Then, with one minute to play, the Wings capitalized on a late man advantage as John Kivisto one-timed a slap shot through Foster to give Kalamazoo a 2-1 lead at the first intermission.
The Wings continued to find offense in the middle frame, as they added four more goals to their total. Justin Taylor and Dustin Cloutier lit the lamp 19 seconds apart beginning at 9:22 to make it 4-1. Following the strike, Foster was pulled and Chet Pickard (ND, 10 saves, 14-12-0-2) came on in relief. Unfortunately, the Kalamazoo offense continued; at the 12:33 mark Elgin Reid buried his seventh goal of the season on the power play with a blast from the left side, extending the Wings cushion to 5-1. Then, at 16:10, Nick Sirota caught a pass from Kory Karlander in the low rim of the right circle and sent a shot through Pickard’s legs, making it a 6-1 game after 40 minutes.
Although the Cyclones sent 17 shots on net in the final frame, they were unable to beat Gill and the Wings won the season series finale with Cincinnati by a 6-1 final score. Cincinnati finished with 2011-12 season with a 5-7-2 record against Nick Bootland’s club.
The Cyclones Radio Network Stars of the Game are as follows:
First Star: Kory Karlander (1 goal, 2 assists for Kalamazoo) Second Star: Nick Sirota (1 goal, 1 assist for Kalamazoo) Third Star: Dustin Cloutier (1 goal, 1 assist for Kalamazoo)
Cincinnati will kick off the final week of regular season play this Wednesday, March 28 as they visit the Chicago Express at 8:00pm ET. Fans can hear all the action of the game on the Cyclones Radio Network (1050-AM, America One) beginning at 7:45pm. |
...And on the eighth day, GOD created the Cyclones! |

It's effectively down to 4 teams fighting for 2 spots:.
Everyone has 3 games left.
SC 77 Points....Cyclones would lose tie breaker as of today REA 75 Points...Cyclones lose tie breaker as of today CIN 75 Points CHI 75 Points....Cyclones win tie breaker as of today
Tie Breakers:
1) Overall Wins in Regulation and OT 2) Points Head-to-Head 3) Wins Head-to-Head 4) Goals Differential Head-to-Head |

After the two game sweep, don't forget Wheeling. It really could be 5 teams for three spots:
6 Wheeling Nailers........... 69 35 25 4 5 79 7 South Carolina Stingrays 69 35 27 4 3 77 8 Cincinnati Cyclones........ 69 33 27 2 7 75 9 Reading Royals............. 69 34 28 3 4 75 10 Chicago Express......... 69 32 26 7 4 75 |

| I think the ECHL website has the standings wrong. They have the Clones 8th and Reading 9th but I think Reading is actually in 8th due to the second tiebreaker (3-2). Am I missing something ?. By the way--8 of Readings wins are against Trenton including the three game sweep this past weekend and have the final game against them also. Trenton now has replaced Bakersfield with the worst record in the entire league. Must be nice to play 13 games against Trenton |

We have head-to-head points on Reading 3-2. We are 1-0-0-1 against Reading while they are 1-1-0-0 against us. |

The ECHL probably goes by goal differential in their standings.
Also, unfortunately we don't have the head-to-head TB with Reading. We've played them twice:
Oct 22 Cincinnati 2 @ Reading 3 Nov 18 Reading 2 @ Cincinnati 3 (SO)
They have 3 points vs. our 2. |

One of the reasons why SC is dropping in the standings. You gotta love this one
http://www.naplesnews.com/news/2012/mar/24/south-carolina-stingrays-hockey-player-auto-theft/
quote: Trenton Campbell was listed as a healthy scratch, but missed the game while serving an indefinite suspension after being arrested early Friday by Collier County sheriff's deputies. He is accused of auto theft, a felony, after witnesses said he got behind the wheel of a taxi outside of a North Naples bar and drove off.

I stand corrected. One of these days I'll learn how to read... :-) |

South Carolina lost Tuesday night to Greenville 4-3. They remain at 77 points, 2 ahead of the Cyclones but with one less game to play. They would likely win any tie breaker with us, but they appear to be in free fall and could lose out.
The Cyclones organEYEzation came up large for the one game road trip to Chicago. The team left after practice on Tuesday and won't have to deal with a bus ride on game day through Chicago traffic.
I'll guess that between extra per diems, hotel rooms and additional bus expenses that this will run the team between $4,000-$5,000. Not a ton of money, but an amount many ownerships probably wouldn't spend-especially in light of the fact that playoffs tend to be money losers for most teams in the ECHL. |
