One of the things I love about hockey is the closeness in the standings at year end among so many teams. In addition to this race look at the standings in the AHL and NHL where so many teams are fighting for the last few spots and others already in are fighting for home ice etc. Sure beats the other three sports where such tight races are rare this close to the end of the season and then they usually are among just one or two teams. Sure keeps your interest.

Cincinnati:
Add Jonathan Hazen, F activated off IR
Add Justin Vaive, F assigned by San Antonio (AHL)
Delete Nick Tabisz, D placed on the 3-day IR

Two good additions. One great subtraction.

Round 1 goes to Greenville. Big blow to South Carolina because at least one and
possibly two teams will be tied with them after tonight. We could have after tonight
one w/ 79, three w/ 77 and one w/ 76 if our game goes to overtime !

LETS GO CYCLONES! It is time to play their best hockey. The way this team has been so streaky needs to come to an end tonight! The Cyclones need to dominate the next three games, and not leave anything on the ice. Three wins are they're in!!!!!!!!!

I said it for years that 80pts should be the goal of any team in the East if they want to get in. Point totals in the mid 70's might get a team in but 80 usually does it safely. If the 'Clones win out they'll have 81pts and get in at either 7th or 8th. A loss, especially against Chicago tonight or Saturday and they can only hit 79pts and with Reading and Chicago likely to hit 79+ the Cyclones chances are slim. Luckily for the 'Clones 2 wins against Chicago and they might just be able to slide in.

Major damage in round 2 !
Round 3 starts Friday with Wheeling at Trenton, Reading at Elmira,

against the Cyclones. Must have a win- regulation or not (won't matter).
Round 4 features Trenton at Reading, Greenville at South Carolina, Elmira at Wheeling
and finally Chicago here against the Cyclones.

Bye the way, here is the bottom of the west:
4 x Colorado Eagles... 69 36 27 1 5 78
5 x Stockton Thunder. 70 34 31 1 4 73
6 x Utah Grizzlies...... 70 32 32 0 6 70

First off, the big winner in round three was Wheeling. They are in so
good for them. Now here is the mess for the the last two spots:
7 South Carolina Stingrays.. 71 36 28 4 3 79
8 Chicago Express .............71 34 26 7 4 79
9 Reading Royals............... 71 35 28 4 4 78
10 Cincinnati Cyclones........ 71 34 28 2 7 77

Not sure on tie breakers but we have to have a regulation win to have any chance.
Trenton and Greenville also need to help w/ regulation wins over SC and Reading.

From the ECHL Site:
Four Eastern Confernce teams are alive for the final two playoff spots in the conference as the ECHL season enters its final day.

South Carolina and Chicago go into tonight’s action controlling their own destinies. The Stingrays, who host Greenville tonight, can clinch a playoff berth with a win, an overtime/shootout loss or a Reading loss. South Carolina is looking to advance to the postseason for the 18th time in its 19 ECHL seasons.

Chicago ended the home portion of its schedule last night with a 4-2 win over Kalamazoo to move into the eighth and final spot in the conference. The Express have won five straight games, and have gone 7-2-1 in their last 10 games, as they look to advance to the Kelly Cup Playoffs in their inaugural season. Chicago travels to Cincinnati tonight needing a win or an overtime/shootout loss plus a Reading loss to punch its ticket to the postseason. For the Cyclones to qualify for the postseason, Cincinnati needs a regulation win in tonight’s game along with a Reading loss.

Reading, which hosts Trenton tonight at Sovereign Center, can advance to the postseason with a win and a Chicago loss or a win and a South Carolina regulation loss.

At the top of the conference, Elmira moved into first place with a 3-2 overtime win against Reading last night. The Jackals, who travel to Wheeling tonight, can secure the top seed in the Eastern Conference with a win, a Gwinnett loss, or an overtime/shootout loss coupled with a Gwinnett shootout win. The Gladiators conclude their three-game series in Florida tonight, and can secure the conference’s number-one seed with a win plus an Elmira regulation loss or a regulation overtime win coupled with an Elmira overtime/shootout loss.

Wow, interesting. I was under the impression we were up on average about 400 per game over last year. Still with them not making the post season, I would rather see that than a drop.

...And on the eighth day, GOD created the Cyclones!
