Dom Valentino, who served as the radio play-by-play broadcaster for the AHL Cincinnati Swords in 1971-72, passed away Tuesday at the age of 83.

Valentino was best known locally as the radio broadcaster for the NBA Cincinnati Royals during the team's last three seasons at the Gardens (1969-72) before the franchise moved to Kansas City.

Valentino was offered the chance to stay on as the Swords broadcaster after the Royals left town but declined, paving the way for Ken Wilson to take over as the "voice" of the Swords. He was also offered the chance to call the WHA Stingers games in 1975 but chose to stay home in New York.
