I just wanted to toss this out for discussion. Given the possible NHL lockout, what effect will this have on the Cyclones and their players? My thought is that the ECHL may have more "AHL" type players sent down because marginal "NHL" players will be taking up roster spots in the AHL. This could be good for the Cyclones due to the dual affiliation but it also could be bad assuming the lockout ends. The Cyclones may not have quality "ECHL" players left after the lockout due to too many roster spots being taken by AHL players. Am I off base? Thoughts?

I've read in The Hockey News and elsewhere that some NHL players will likely be optioned to AHL clubs so they can keep working on their games within their club's system instead of going to Europe. That could, indeed, cause borderline AHL players to be sent to the ECHL, contingent upon each individual player's contract status.

Think back to the last lockout. Since the Cyclones were dark, if you went to Ducks games you saw a large number of NHL talent playing at the AHL level. Good for the fans to see awesome quality but the lockout is not going to be a good thing for the NHL if it happens again so soon.

I agree with everyone, it will be great for ECHL/AHL clubs, but for the hockey community as a whole, it will be bad. It would not look good for the NHL to have lockouts everytime the contract runs out, it wont work or look good.
However when it comes to AHL teams and ECHL teams, possible attendance rise for some, seeing better players and less call ups, but again that does depend on players individually. THink back to 04-05 Scott Gomez played for the Alaska Aces a couple other NHLers played for ECHL teams so you never know, but from a Cyclones perspective less call ups will cause more team unity! But again that is all on hold until something official happens |

As justmom pointed out, there was some really good talent on teh Ducks, and in the AHL overall, during the lst lockout. It was some great hockey. There will be a trickle down effect to the ECHL from the displaced AHL regulars. While my ultimate hope is that the NHL start on time, if it doesn't, and it's looking like it won't, the lockout can last the whole season as far as I'm concerned. That way we won't get used to one level of play just to have them all called up when the lockout ends.

It may help attendance a little but a lot of the families and hi by fans won't know yhe AHL talent. It's only the fans that are regulars already that know these guys. Most people I talk to that want to go to a game this season know nothing of a lockout.
