I grew up in Fairfield, OH just down the road from Hamilton. Playing hockey as a kid, this place was where my Dad and I would always go to practice skating. Old school place, open air sides and just a neat place overall. It was also featured in the 1993 film "Airborne."
I came across it crumbling and abandoned about six years ago and last night had to go to Miami Hamilton and ended up parking where it used to be. That inspired me to do a little write up on it and hockey history in Cincinnati. Also threw in a little salute to Section 60.

Anyone else ever skate here?

Great article. Some of the past "treasures" that linger around before finally finding their ends is a shame. In Cincinnati, the first comes to mind is the old subway tunnel entrance on I 75 by Harrison exit. Go down in Brookville and the remnants of the old canals come to mind. Even though it's a recreation, current Crosley Field comes to mind.Wonder how much of the old Fernald plant is still around and the old Americana Amusement park. |

I played there in the early 90s and it was a hell of a lot of fun! Temperatures could range from the single digits to 60 degrees. When it snowed and the wind blew, little drifts would build up behind the north goal and the puck would disappear. Greg, the guy who runs the visitors penalty box, played there too as did my wife for awhile. |

Played there throughout the 80s. Loved playing there! Thanks for rekindling those memories, "Gordon". |
