04/09/2013 Garrett Wilson (F) Cincinnati ADD Reassigned by Florida (NHL) from San Antonio (AHL)
Thanks, Chuck.
Assuming the whole roster is healthy, does snyone with more hockey knowledge than me (i.e. everyone) have any idea who will have to sit now? I don't think much of Vaive but he has size. Lindstrom is not much of a scorer but he really plays tough. Birkholz has never impressed me. I think Lewis and Smyth have earned the right to suit up. |

There is a reason Vaive spent almost the whole year in the AHL....
Ive been very impressed with Birkholz but since his injury he just hasnt been the same. But we only have 10 healthy forwards at the moment so none of them need to be scratched.
As for D - having to pick between 6 of the 9 is hard. O'Hanley, Reed and Ellington I would definitely keep active but the rest are a tossup. |

Actually, we are not dressing 20 players, so we can add Wilson without dropping anyone.
We now have 2G, 11F, and 6D on the active roster.
As for Vaive, this year in the AHL he has 4 points in 41 games and a career total of 6 points in over 70 AHL games. Not exactly a scoring threat, but perhaps he will bring a toughness to the playoff roster.
On defense, I like Roussel's offense contributions and Mac's toughness as well as the play of O'Hanley, Reed, and Ellington. |

| If any of the current forwards were to go on reserve Smyth would be first. Hopefully Milwaukee gets eliminated from the playoffs and we get Shalla back so we have to deal with that problem. |

| I imagine it depend on perhaps who is dinged up and then what Skalde wants from each line. If he wants Garrett to play right wing with X and Y for example, who is displaced and does this guy then go and disrupt another line at right wing or another position or does he sit because the other lines are playing well together?. Being in the playoffs I would think the Coach is much more apt to sit who provides the least amount of defense rather than more offense. A guy like Vaive might be more valuable to the scheme than a more offensive minded player. |

| This presents an interesting problem. With two nice wins already, would Skalde consider standing pat with the lineup and sit Wilson? That would draw a lot of people's ire (including Wilson), but coaches are reluctant to change a proven formula in the playoffs. However, I would guess Smyth might be the odd man out with Wilson returning. Just don't remove Embach. He's on fire! |

Again, King, you couldn't be more wrong. Birkholz has far more skill than Smyth and should be out there. I do agree with you on Lewis, he's a great player. But Birkholz rarely turns the puck over, is fast as hell, and can win face-offs. Have you ever watched hockey? Just curious.
I do think Lindstrom has left a lot to be desired. I have to be honest and say I expected more. |

PsychFan and DBC....I hope you will join me in making a real effort to keep this blog about hockey and not childish little weinie measuring contests between the bloggers.
I'll start - DBC - your post about shuffling lines is just the kind of insight I was looking for. Thanks for the post.

No weenie measuring contests. Simply asking you to state reasoning behind your senseless opinions. So far, you're seriously lacking. |

your reply is appreciated King. Just re-read my post on your Skalde comment and I got carried away a bit and made it too personal. Will try and do better. Just a pet peeve of mine when everything bad or potentially bad is blamed on the coach and little if any credit given for things that go right. They are an easy target but when they are the target it should include suggested solutions and not just problems.
I too am concerned about this team's ability to go deep in the conference as there are four other teams I think have a real chance and not one sticks out like we did in the first cup year. The 2nd cup year we caught a lot of breaks in the SC series and of course came back from 0-3 to Reading. I think the best thing about this team is the balance as there is no one or two players who NEED to play big and carry us, and I think the weakness of the team is the balance as there is no one or two players who CAN play big and carry us. I hope the Embach, Lewis, Pacan line proves me wrong and remains on fire. |
